I don't think there's been an attractive train in the US since the 1930s.

Yeah, I guess that has to do with the decrease in rail travel.

Just come to Europe and witness the amazing grace of trains like this:

This stock drove around the country in 1946.

Most of them do, but the class 180 (adelante (sp?)) is quite good looking

Image

and there are much worse designs than the class 390 (Pendelino)

Image

especially when you compare it to something like a class 153

Boy, they didn't waste any time getting their act together after WW2, did they.

No they didn't. But they planned this stock before the war and I wonder how accurate 1946 is. Also, there were very similar looking diesel trains before WWII crossing the country.

Really? Like the "Flying Hamburger" in Germany, which I believe is the purple DMU in MB's DBset?

Indeed, and I think the slimline Pendelino and Voyager look fitter than that fat Adelante thing :o)

Without even checking on Mercurio, that's in Swansea station. Complete with boarded-up toilets on Platform 4 ...

Actually, I can see several DMUs and EMUs were built in Norway during the war.

It seems people from all countries are complaining about their trains. Are anyone happy out there?

And here's my weird train:

Swansea station is one that has definately seen better days - I spent many hours there when I was at uni waiting for trains or people on trains, or even when I was bored to just look at the trains (not that HSTs are that exciting!) - can you still avoid teh barrier checks by walking into the carpark direct from Platform 1?

As always, if the gate to the staff car park is open, yes.

Assuming the company was going to provide diesel traction for the services, there were to have been "NightStar" services from Paris to Swansea, using this stock.

Shame these didn't go ahead. Trains from the continent through to the regions, terminating at Glasgow, Manchester, Swansea and Plymouth.

Yes, very much like the Flying Hamburger. The pics aren't big but you can get an idea of what they looked like overhere: http://www.nicospilt.com/Dieseltreinstel27.htm

I like this train (I think lots of you think it's ugly), but I like this:

It's from Danmark.

Would be a big splash when you jump just for the train.

It's neat, just like the dutch Koploper (first post) you can walk through the head to another unit once it's been combined.
