I've retrospectively added ">= 13.1" to the OpenTTD version check in Bananas.

There's nothing in the Horse grf to enforce this, but Bananas should restrict which OpenTTD clients it makes the grf available to.

Not sure what that does for JGRPP users though? :)

It doesn't show up anymore in JGRPP, but there is the option in Bananas to set a JGRPP version as well :)

I use Debian as well and I encounter the same problem with other newgrfs. 13.1 is not even in Sid, so I'm afraid we'll have to wait or try the binary.

    • Vigilant
    • Lemon

    • Vulcan
  • tweaked yellow Saxon livery to be more yellow

I've just loaded up OpenTTD for the first time in quite a while, and seen this update to Iron Horse being available.

I started a new game, and got an error, which might be because I'm still running OTTD 13.0:
Iron Horse 3.2.0 fatal error, OTTD 13.0
Iron Horse 3.2.0 fatal error, OTTD 13.0
Iron Horse 3.2.0 Fatal Error.png (31.1 KiB) Viewed 5348 times
This seems to be the same error that I got with Iron Horse 3.1 (albeit with a different sprite flagged):
Iron Horse 3.1.0 fatal error, OTTD 13.0
Iron Horse 3.1.0 fatal error, OTTD 13.0
Iron Horse 3.1 Fatal error.png (20.96 KiB) Viewed 5348 times
Yes, I am aware of all the various options regarding updating to a newer version of OTTD, but it's not a 'big thing' for me at the moment - I have no qualms about compiling it and packaging to a .deb to allow me to 'dpkg -i' it if 13.5 should make an appearance.

And you're surprised that your outdated game that couldn't run this grf three months ago still can't run it? What was the point of this report?

This is not a bug, but expected behavior. Your version of tycoon doesn't support the new feature yet, which is basically what the message says. :)

Expected behaviour when installing a newGRF from within the game is that it will work seamlessly with the game - so getting this error message is NOT expected behaviour.
However, it would be reasonable for a creator of a newGRF to be aware that not everyone will be running a version of the game that supports the features they are using, and therefore would specify appropriate minimum requirements.

No, I'm not at all surprised, as I knew that I wasn't able to run IH 3.1 with OTTD 13.0. I made my post for the sole purpose of making Andy aware that he appeared to have overlooked a step when he uploaded IH 3.2 to Bananas - namely the 'minimum version' field not set appropriately.

I have previously stated my 'reasons' for not running a version of OTTD later than 13.0, and those reasons haven't changed since IH 3.1 was released.

If you can still download it, the fault is probably more with Bananas.

I don't think he can speak our language...

andythenorth wrote: 28 Sep 2023 07:02 I've set the minimum requirement in Bananas to OpenTTD 13.4 for Iron Horse 3.2.0. This should prevent the issue recurring in future.
I'd bet that Banana will show it in outdated JGRPP versions still. Then again... i have no idea how this game works so maybe not.

Are there any plans to reintroduce a 4th generation for the narrow-gauge set?
