Generally, yes, IP bans should remain in place. That said, I have had to unban some of the /16s you banned though, as I was simply getting too many e-mails from people who were finding themselves banned despite never setting foot on the forums. Banning 65,536 IP addresses at a time is perhaps not the most appropriate thing to do!

All they want is post their links in their profiles ... can we not restrict that ... eg. no persoanl links before 20 posts or so.
That will stop them because then they have to spend time making posts that make sense, just an idea.
This is the measurement often taken in other forums. Like ex. this forum is super-strict with 5 million members, in which most (around half) are active.

It did work though  although I don't understand what you mean with /16s.

I had no idea that it was this bad... 78% of the 100 newest members are definitely spammers.

It's networking terminology - i.e., blocking 10.0.*.* is blocking a /16. 10.*.*.* is a /8, and 10.0.0.* is a /24.

It did work, but it also blocked lots of genuine users. :(

Blocking or whatever but the forums are slow as hell again for me. Need over a minute to load any page.

Same on my side. I'm not a network specialist but perhaps the server hardware fails at a certain point?

Scratch that. I've needed over 3 minutes just to log in now.

I've just had to spend about ten minutes and 5 login attempts. I was logging in, then being kicked back to the index page without having being actually logged on.

edit: and its kicking up MySQL connection failure errors.

It looks like MySQL is the culprit, but I haven't managed to identify what's going on exactly yet. I'm working on it.

I haven't experienced any problems since a little while after the first complaint. I'm not even having trouble loading pages on a tablet.

I expect you have already run REPAIR TABLE and OPTIMIZE TABLE? Or it might be a number of connections thing.

Bit OT, but becasue it had been discussed in this thread, I noticed that since the last clean-up (~august 20th) there have been registered already ca 1000 new spam accounts.

@Mods - Sorry guys but there seem to be a lag problem again, at least on my side here. I've spent over 2 minutes to log in and every page takes a minimum of 30 seconds to load.

General internet problem or something wrong with the forums again?

Voyager One, have a look at http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=69217. I am also experiencing abnormal slowness on here. Moderation is very difficult with it.

Edit: Got a 500 about half an hour ago on my phone.

Sorry Roboboy, I didn't see a new thread, I've remembered the old one and posted here. I've noticed the new thread a few minutes after posting.

In any case, things seem to be better now.
