On some old comeng metro stock. While waiting for the train at Parliament, some departmental train comprised of one metro car top and tailed by two EMD style diesels passed through leaving the deep bore station choked with exhaust. The metro car had its pantograph up so not sure why the diesels needed to be providing power in the tunnel...

Sat on 150147 waiting for it to leave Wigan North Western as 1103 to Liverpool Lime Street, which I will be getting as far as Prescot.

My train to Wigan North Western was the 1000 Manchester Airport to Edinburgh, which was 350410.

Currently stuck at Eastleigh waiting for the other portion of the train to arrive to continue to Waterloo. Saw something strange on arrival; a delayed Portsmouth to Cardiff train formed out of a SWT 158, FGW 158/9 and a SWT 159 on the front. 8 carriage super sprinters from Portsmouth; something you don't see every day...

Imagine a small goldfish bowl, now put 150 fish into this bowl. Now imagine you are one of these fish, and you paid £7.70 to be in that bowl. You are now imagining what it is like on this train I am on.

16:42 Meadowhall to Brockholes.

Come to London. You'll see how much cheaper your ticket is in the north for the same travelling conditions; an off peak Guildford - London is £15.10. There might be 150 people on the 142, its the same as having over 1000 on a triple 450, a daily occurence in SWTland. When it is proper crush loaded on a service out of Waterloo with first station Guildford 40 minutes away; bad times!

It's got to the point where I've started using buses for local journies, more expensive but not half as crowded.

Currently on my favourite train service; 1J99 - 1523 Taunton to London Paddington stopping service. I use it relatively frequently for journeys from Newton Abbot to Salisbury or Bournemouth. It is the only train out of the 3 or 4 that isn't uncomfortably full, carting a massive amount of fresh air at least as far as Westbury. This suits me as a passenger though as it forms the shortest connection in Westbury for this route all afternoon and because the first part of the journey is very quiet, there is always availability of the cheapest tier of advance tickets. I'm currently sat in the priority seats at one end of coach D with the seat back TVs and have noone else in this half of the carriage (and only 3 in the whole thing) on this high density HST set.

I hope you are enjoying your first ride on one, I did my first from Wrexham General-Ruabon on 175007 and I actually enjoyed it. But later on in the day I had to get on a Manchester bound one to Helsby, and that was overcrowded even though it was a 3 car.

I actually think they are ok, although the 47 thing still really annoys me. The only reason I enjoyed my first journey was because I got seats and they were comfy. Also it wasn't to wedged. Otherwise the are foul.

You're not even old enough to remember 47s...

You might as well complain that HSTs are crap because they displaced Deltics.

About that, but I was out on them every weekend and most weekdays.
