Trees........A PAIN!

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

Do any of you find that the trees are a pain? They are like weeds, they get in the way, while they are pretty to have and I love trees in real life, but, I don't want them in my way where I'm building. Is there any way to control them? I read at TTD Patch when someone made a switch for making even more trees, (you nuts or something?) Anyway, there should be a way to have trees where and when you want them and a way to keep from having the darn things when you don't. I know I sound like I'm one of those anti-enviromental Americians.) But, they're still a pest.

Always,
Jim Powers :cry:

Trees add to the difficulty of the game, cutting down trees makes your rating bad so you can avoid it
On the other hand with the new plant many trees option, you can lift your rating with 2 clicks, this is very good
I also like the system in the tropic climate where the trees are cut down and produce lumber

Anyway, is this a suggestion or do you want our views on it ?

Trees

Post by Jim Powers »

Mr. Spaceman-Spiff;

I never used the plantmoretrees option. You say you get a 2 point raise? That's cool. Now, in Temperate mode, If I plantmoretrees, around my forests, does this help my forest to grow more trees, Sir? seems logical, doesn't it? And don't get me wrong, I do love trees! But, I build a lot of scenarios and would dearly love to place the trees where I want them. Also the exact color, as I tried to do to mark my airports with 'yellow' trees. I most certainly want to hear views, pro or con, my friend.

Always,
Jim Powers

Im with u Jim, trees are both a blessing and a hinderance, as spiff says the way you deal with trees affects your ratings with town councils, cut down too many and they wont like you. but plant trees around the town and your stations and your ratings will go up, i think im right in saying that your rating can only go up to "good" or "very good" i cant remember which.

I come from Norway, we have lots of tree's here.
However in TT I HATE THEM! They are in the way when working on the rails, I never get to see that small hill making my railway do an unnecessary bump.
ARRRRGH! Should be something to get rid of them, an option like CHT: KILLALLTREES or something, they grow like annoying pests, they are everywhere.

I do find tree's ok in the real world, however in the game... It is different.

(I am very very sure on this point)

Well, I think I will have another look at your code then... See if I can make anymore sense out of it...
I am currently learning C++, lets see what can be done.

Trees

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Tt-Forum Family;

My point is, trees are beautiful and add to the reality of the game
and are a must. but, just like in real life, you don't want trees in the way of your nice mown grass lawn. I like to build an unusual design around my Headquarters, (see 'Oil Heaven',) this is a way to set your corporation
apart from the 'commoners'. You are a tycoon and you want others to know it. Right? Anyway, trees are nice to line the road to your place. But, having them scattered every which way, looses it's appeal. There were trees all over , but, then when civilization came, some of the darn things got cut down and thus we have cities and roads, etc., not just stupid trees!

Always,

Realisticly trees are scattered around, and with some forest, but you find lone trees to. And btv, who don't want threes in the garden? Theire a pain when moving it but they look real nice!
Alcohol is not the answer, it just makes you forget the question.

Maybe switch off displaying trees when details are set on low, like with the rail fences?

Trees........

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Arathorn;

A good suggestion, except, I need 'full detail' when making
my scenarios. So, maybe some place else, on the gray menu?

Always,
Jim Powers

Removing all trees at once is possible, I once used it in an editor
There was a button to remove all trees, perhaps use this code in a new cheat ?
But like all suggestions, this should be posted in the sugg.topic and like all suggestions, if the patchmakers don't like it, then it won't get done
This is not to critize, it's realistic !

Okay trees away from the raillines, roads and such is ok.
However, I added once in the editor, just a few trees.
Like 20 ones or less, a little bit scattered around the map, 1 tile there and one here.
I started the game, when I hit year 2000 and I started in the steam age, well suffice to say, the tree's had spread and were almost EVERYWHERE.
The darn tree spreading is the annoying part.

trees? what's so bad about trees? I do what shadow does, just build trough them. What Appaling? give a bribe and destroy the whole town!
anyway, I useally don't even notice there is a tree where I want to build.
I heard the stories that they tell of how they labored for this company which sold it's soul to hell

Imagine this situation...
You are building the rail line, okay, the path looks clear, but there are a few trees in the way but other than that you don't notice anything.
However when you start building the railroad gets all fuzzy because of bumps, holes, hidden hills etc etc.
Just because those tree's where blocking the view and spread so far.
