Windows 7 dplay.dll error

Post by TheKTrain »

I recently got a new laptop with windows 7 OS. I downloaded TTD and ran TTDpatch setup and setup. after this when i openned the game an error message said that the file dplay.dll could not be found i have tried uninstalling reinstalling redownloading but to no avail, i was hoping someone with the same or similar problem could help as i have the original TTD for DOS and would really like to relive those childhood memories :D

Check out the FAQ here, the section called "Windows Vista complains about a missing file dplay.dll?" : http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... play_dll_i_

It means a file by the name of "TTDLOAD[W].ovl" in the same directory as your "ttdpatch[w].exe", there is an option in the configuration called "forcerebuildovl" which will generate a new version every-time TTDPatch is run.

Also, always run "ttdpatch[w].exe" and not the original game executable.

vista doesnt appear to come with dplay, i had issues running old games like doom, transport tycoon etc

however i have found a solution in the windows/system32 dir there is a file called dplayx.dll

the solution i found is to create a copy of the file and name it dplay.dll

you should find this will solve your problem Big Smile

hope this helps, cornish52
