Running the game fails

Post by jensr2000 »

After a while I've decided to play the game again.

But now GameGFX.exe says that it cannot find the CD and ttdpatchw.exe says "Create process failed". I tried to enter the cd path in the ttdpatchw.cfg and forced ttdpatch to rebuild the ovl, but this didn't help.

I'm using Windows XP and some weeks ago the game worked perfectly. I've now tried using both the older ttdpatch 1.9 and the new beta 3.

Are you sure that all the necessairy files are in the games' directory and not in a sub-directory? If TTD fails to find any of its original files in the games' directory it prompts you with this error.

ttdpatchw.exe is in the same directory as the GameGFX.exe and I've checked whether the setup routine has copied all the files from the CD, but no files are missing.

I have no problems playing with your config files !
Is it the latest beta from http://www.ttdpatch.net/beta/ you're using ?
Be sure to use the latest grf files !!!
Please try again
Like shadow said, you're running ttdpatchw.exe ?
Can you turn on verbose switch, this will show you the versions and switches, can you send me a printscreen of that ?

Edit: and have you run mkpttxt.exe ?
I always run this after downloading
Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future

I've run mkpttxt.exe, I'm using ttdpatchw.exe to run the game and yes, I'm using the most recent files.

And here is a screenshot with the verbose switch via e-mail.

Screenshot of what error? Of the graphics manager? I don't now what this mysterious graphics manager should be!? So it's quite obvious I don't use it.

Oh yes, I've got it. THE error. I've send it to spaceman-spiff via e-mail.

Sorry for all the other users. I don't know how to post images directly in the forum and I don't have a homepage to which I could link.

When you post something, there is a button at the bottom
'Add an attachment'

But here are the errors

Edit: Is it possible you have to use capitals in the cdpath switch ???
Can't he use the starter from shadow to add the registry ? or is this not the problem ?

Capitals in the cdpath? I don't think there is a difference between c:\nonsense and C:\NONSENSE. Maybe I misunderstood you. But nevertheless I've tried that.

The starter from shadow? ... Sounds mysterious. Do you mean TTDStarter. It corrects a registry entry as I know. But I used regedit after that error message (concerning the registry) appearing after installing the game. The registry now contains my game folder, and I also tried the cd path instead.

Very strange
You have the latest beta 2.0.3
All the latest graphics
Correct config files
An entry in the registry

Perhaps it's a switch
Take a backup and delete your ttdpatch.cfg file

Then start the game, add this to the desktop
ttdpatchw.exe -W ttdpatch.cfg
So be sure to use 'W' and not w

This will create a new config file with everything off
Then change win2k switch to on and try again

Edit: and can you post a screenshot from your newgrf folder/map ???

I've rebuild the config file, but as you may think, this doesn't change anything except I can reset all the config I wanted ttdpatch to use.

For your information, I've done the following steps for setting up my ttdlx folder:
- uninstalling the game and removing the directory
- installing it from the cd
- running gamegfx.exe (registry error)
- running regedit (fixing the registry)
- running gamegfx.exe (cd error)
- downloading ttdpatch and graphics
- unzipping it into my ttdlx folder
- running mkpttxt.exe
- running ttdpatch (create process error)
- edit ttdpatch.cfg's cd path to my cd drive / game patch

I hope this is a complete list. But it is not willing to work anyway. The newgrf folder is exactly the same as in the beta 3 download and the config file is also the same as from the beta 3 download.

3 options:

In my opinion downloaded version is not properly version .... try with english one or download from another location (if it is downloaded)

also maybe it's because of other programs and/or anti-viruses ... turn off all programs and try ...

do you have admin rights ??

Download the game? ... English one? ... No I'm using a German CD version. But I'm willing to download if that fixes the problem. Where can I get a English one?

I have no anti-virus or other programs running. And yes of course, I have administor rights.

3 options? Sounds more like two.
