JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!

Well, I goto play my game with all the ECS Industries on, but playing the Game with the Japan Train Set just doesn't Work, since the wagons cant carry the extra cargo types : (

So what I thought is, what if Some One Made a Japanese Industry Set Containing stuff like :
Train Yard (Accepts Steal, Glass And Electronics to make Trains but not needed to make your trains),
Ship Yard (Accepts Steal, Glass and Electronics for Making Sjips, again, not needed for Making your Ships),
Electronics Industry (Accepts Plastic, Copper, Glass to make Electronics)
Farms like Live stock, Rice, Vegies and Fruits, Milk and a Wheat Farm (Makes Cereals and Grain)
Sake Brewery (Needs rice to make Sake Which can be accepted by most towns/cities)
Beer Brewery (Needs Grains to make Beer which again, can be Accepted by most towns/cities)
Natural Gas Power Plant (Needs to Natural Gas to Produce Power which could be use to help make a town/city grow)
Oil Power Plant (Needs to Petrol or Oil to Produce Power which could be use to help make a town/city grow)
Food Processing Plant (Needs an Assortment of things like Milk, Cereals, LiveStock, Vegies, and Fruit to make food)
and also most of the other ECS Industries

BTW I think that the exsisting Japan set trains will need to be modified in order for it to work with this idea, If I knew how I would do it my self but too bad, i dont :P

I hope that can be done, and if not could some one make an adepter for the Japanese Train set for the ECS Industries or make a Japanese Train Set that Includes ECS in it?

Hello NekoMaster,
From those involved in the Japan Set, welcome :)
There was a proposal written quite some time ago to re-wire the industries for the Japan set but there hadn't been enough work done on it.
You can also see some WIP graphics for the Rice Fields, but again, it all needs time and work devoted.

Your ideas are great... And now to the crunch, we simply need more people with the skills to draw and then code these industries.
dandan is doing an awesome job on the vehicles and I don't know how much we want to load him down :P

Hmm, well, I am a half decent artist, but Im not sure about this, I tried a few times to see if I could make a building or a train in paint but it ended up all wonky and stuff. Unless you can give me so directions on how to make Transport Tycoon Sprites then I can't help here, Im more of a Idea person rather then a put it to work person : P

I know next to nothing about pixel art, but people usually point towards Purno's drawing tutorial (in his signature), though that seems to focus more on vehicles. Still, if you have artistic skills and a little spare time, why don't you give it a try? Even if first attempts won't be perfect, there are lots of people on these forums that will comment and help you to improve.

As for the incompatibility of the Japanese Train Set with other industry sets, that at least will be gone with the next version which works with any ECS/PBI set. But custom Japanese industries would still be much better.

Yes I think having Japanese Industries will enhance the feel of making a Japanese themed (or Japan it self) map : )

The whole idea, from the very start, was to have a completely Japan map, including industries. So I am 100% in favor of doing this - at first, by producing Japan-ized versions of the normal TTD industries, and then by completely replacing the vectors.

NekoMaster, if you are not an experienced pixel-artist, that's OK. One way you could start is simply by taking the existing, normal TTD industry sprites, and working to modify them to "Japan-ize" them. This would be good practice, and would be useful too until new industries and vectors get drawn. On the tracking website, you'll also find a lot of sprites that were previously drawn but never finished that would help you in this effort, and make it a little more like "Cut and Paste" at least to start with.

Man, cant wait for Japanese Type Industries, I really hope that a Sake brewery and a Natural Gas Power Plant oh and Electronics stuff and the Train Yard is added : P

None of the "plans" there are set in stone, at all. But you'll find a great many useful sprite resources, I think. The only reason it has not been done, is because we did not have anyone to do it. If you want to do it, rest assured it will get done. 8)

Well, I would try my hand at this but theres 2 problems i have to deal with
1. I cant sprite, ill try for Transport Tycoon but i dunno.
2. I have ADHD so I have a short attension spand, so eventually I'll get bored and do something else (I've tried to make over 20 RPG's now and not one has gotten to 5% done :P )

well then, either transport tycoon will cure you (it's so addictive it is maybe possible =D ) or you will get bored of transport tycoon. In any case, if you feel motivated, I guess giving it a go is not too complicated, and maybe you can get the work started before you get bored, so other people can continue it.
I am little, ugly, and nasty. How do you do?

Then I think that's perfect, if you start drawing one sprite at a time. If you don't draw ALL the industries, that's fine, because however many you've drawn will still be usable and someone else can do the rest. It's how all the trains got done...

That's a start. Like I mentioned before, I think you'd do well to use the existing TTD industry sprites as a starting point and modify those. That'll give you a feel for the TTD style and color-pallette. You have to use a special color pallette, and matching shadowing, and various other aspects in order for new art to "fit" in the game.

And you have to use the official TTD pallette. You really need to read the various art tutorials on the Patch Wiki.

as i've understood it can i make a "somethingnew.grf"

and if i then make a "somethingnew.tar" witch points to the spritnumbers in somethingnew.grf it can do so, atleast thats the way i understood it

Heh, I have GIMP, and I know how to make 32bit pngs, 32bit pngs are normally pngs with transparency
