Can't connect to friends server

Post by GaZeeBo »

Hey all,

My friend is running a 24/7 server where him and a few friends and me want to make an everlasting game.
However I can not seem to connect to his server.
The server address is 83.189.224.244 and my game keeps saying that server is offline.

I'm out of options and I don't know what to do to get his server to show "online".
Anyone can help me?

I can't seem to ping his ip address, nor find the name of his game in the server list.
He can join a game I had made however, so maybe he didn't give me the right ip address.
Oh well he's gonna ask one of his friends how he joined. In the meantime if anyone has any ideas, please tell them =)

Are we talking about a "home" server which he runs on his computer? Or is he running a server on a server computer that he owns or pays monthly rent and that is located somewhere else?

He has an old mac computer on wich he runs a multiplayer game of openttd.
I'm not 100% sure as to wether he has started a multiplayer game or actually uses the server version of the game.

Though his brother and a friend can connect to the server without any problems at all.
It's me who cant.
Let me remind you though he can connect to my game when I start a multiplayer game.

I have a macbook laying around here somewhere so I'll see if I can connect to his game with that but I don't think the issue here lies within choice of OS.

His computer might be behind a router. Tell him to activate port forwarding and the problem should be solved.

That doesn't explain why his friend and brother can connect to the game though. ?(
Asked and he already did forward ports.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood you there... That is indeed strange. He might have told you the wrong IP though. He has at least two of them (on LAN IP and one internet IP). Maybe he also has a second LAN adaptor that also has an IP. That's the only place where I could imagine the error to be at...

He gave me the same ip address as he gave to his friend.
We tried several other ip addresses all without succes.

The server is called Open Ttd multimedia or something. maybe Open Ttd gamedesign.

Also, he went to whatsmyip.org and gave me that ip and also didnt work.

Oh well.. would have been nice to play together but guess it's not possible heh.

I am having this same problem, except I'm the one hosting.
Neither of my two friends have been able to join, with either Hamachi, or through the internet.
It just says 'Server Offline' even though I'm clearly not.
server_bind_ip variable has been set to 0.0.0.0, my hamachi IP, and my real IP, all with no effect.
The port is forwarded, as I've hosted online successfully before.
This has happened with 13800, 13817, and a modified 13810.
Anybody have any ideas?
EDIT: Odd, a simple restart of the game allowed one of them to join (the other left) and my laptop.
My laptop, obviously, was connected to my internal LAN, but he joined through the WAN, so.. I guess, success?
Although I don't know why restarting it never worked before this particular time...

Been having problems myself- can't seem to get anybody to see the dedicated server game ("-D", not actual server.)
Just started one, no GRFs, 1950 start. Running 0.6.1 RC2

Server address is 192.168.1.4:3979

Game name is All American OTTD 1921 (didn't change it- just original settings right now)

Can anybody see the game, and if so, join (just to test)?

Up right now as of 2:17 pm EST

That's an internal ip, you need to setup port forwarding in your router. After you've done that, find out your real ip and we might be able to join.
