OpenTTD Flickr Group

Post by pauliusuza »

Hey there,

I've started a public Flickr group for screenshots from OTTD.

I highly encourage everyone to upload and showcase the best of your station and line connection designs. Signaling pros are welcome to post their load balancers and prioritizers. Graphics masters - the screens featuring their NewGRF creations. And last but not least - newbies are encouraged to learn from those designs and try them all out in the real game.

Group's page on Flickr is: http://www.flickr.com/groups/openttd/

Looking forward to seeing you on there!

P.S Could anyone make this a sticky for a while, please? ?(

No, it's not.

Forums don't provide a convenient image hosting option, they don't provide tagging engine and tools to resize images on the fly, comments are thread based versus image based (imagine you want to get feedback on your station design) and finally forums do not provide an API which you can use to easily show images on multiple websites (aka networking).

I like it.. being that i already use flickr for photos and random screenshots and what not, it's a walk in the park for me to post them there along with all my other junk.

Also as was stated, the forums are quite hard to browse at times when it comes to screenshots, a purpose built image hosting solution kinda reaches out with the pimp hand and smacks it one ;)

However, thats not to say that the screenshots and save games thread is not needed, choices are nice to have :)

I agree with the idea of a separate gallery for beautiful or interesting rail layouts, but still I felt I need to ask... Why is the attachment system at the forum not convenient?

The attachment system serves its purpose. To allow relevant, to the topic at hand, hosting. Where as flikr does not require topics therefore you are less restricted on your images.

It also serves as a handy search tool, by adding tags to your images people can sort through images that are related. The forums and current set up can not do this. Yes you are more likely to get more information with a topic and a picture but if you are only after ideas, then going through 30 odd pages of text to find 2 images on each page can be a long tedious task. You don't have to use flikr and you don't have to use the attachments on the forums but any other tool for finding information is always handy.

I hope that covers it.
