Question about .grf's that require "newindustries"

Question about .grf's that require "newindustries"

Hey all,

I'm sorry if I ask a question that has been asked before...
I have searched the forum and the wiki, but I still have a few questions regarding a feature called "newindustries"

I love OpenTTD, and to be honest I prefer it above TTDP. So I was looking for grf files that are also compatible with OTTD, and discovered a few projects, namely UKRS, PBI and ECS, which add new industries, functionality and cargotypes.
Websites talking about these projects contradict each other, some saying it is compatible with OTTD, others stating it will be in the next few weeks (without showing a date when that website was made), others tell me GRF files are only for TTDP.

So I hope someone can make things a little bit clearer for me:

Is there framework called "newindustries" inside OTTD, in TTDP, both or none? (If so, how can I activate it?)
Is it under development for OTTD, if so, is there an official topic / website where we can discuss its progress and take a look at (unfinished) code?

I'm designing a new scenario and was hoping to use more types of industries in it. The red squares with exclamation marks in the GRF Loader make me indecisive, I really want to continue with the map but if possible not without the new ECS grfs. :roll:

Any information would be greatly appreciated, :D

yes, that's being asked a lot :D

ok,
These grfs will not work in OTTD as of today, October 4th 2007 - they will as soon as newindustries is implemented in OTTD, which is what the devs are currently concentrating on mainly. They do work in TTDP. How to activate them in the patch, i don't know - but it should work without problems.
Yes, newindustries is under development for OTTD, it is even the last stepstone missing towards the next official version 0.6.0 according to the wiki. I don't know about a website/topic for discussion about newindustries or its implementation in OTTD, but the newest source code for OTTD is always available via svn - svn://svn.openttd.org/trunk

As of now, you will have to live without these industries, or use TTDP.

That answers all my questions, I totally forgot to check the roadmap on the wiki :oops:
Thanks a lot, i'll just start a new savegame without them, my addiction can't wait much longer :)

NewIndustries is now in trunk, just get get the latest nightly and load up the NewGRFs.

Depends... On your point of view, it may appear fast.
On mine, more like the work of a full year (and even more)...
Thus quite a long process ;)
If you are not ready to work a bit for your ideas, it means they don't count much for you.
OpenTTD and Realism? Well... Here are a few thoughs on the matter.

I realize that it can take a long time to reprogram such a significant part of the game. I meant 'fast' as in 'sooner than I expected', so you made me very very happy :D

Does anyone have suggestions for good vector grfs? The ECS vector files (11 in total) take ages to generate the industries on a big map (1Kx1K).

Please don't imply they are not good. Slow generation is an issue, but set is fine.
You can use Pikka's sets or use a few instead of all vectors together.

guess why they are split up in vectors? so you can use one or a few of them, like athanasios also said. :wink:

the alternative is Pikka's Basic Industries - if you want you can add UKRS Industries Brick Chain which is an add on to PBI.


edit: i know i didn't really say much more than athanasios... :oops:
