Extended Refit

Post by uzurpator »

Greetings :)

I humbly suggest such upgrade for the refitting system. (screenie below).

- It would allow much easier refitting of trains.
- It would allow changing vehicle properties (Max speed, power, te, reliability decay, running cost, current life (important!) etc) for locomotives - 'virtually' enhancing amount of possible vehicle IDs, and adding certain amount of realism (rail companies often rebuild their fleet).

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but that one isn't.

What are the check-marks for?
How do you toggle the check-marks?
Where did the "Gearing" text come from?

Granted, I can probably puzzle out the answers to most of those questions, but please save the patchdevs the trouble, and me the uncertanty.

Apparently my foray into abstraction layers and virtual functions has gotten the best of me:P (i work as a C++ programmer :D).

Check marks indicate vehicles of a train consist to be refitted. You toggle them by clicking on the vehicle.

The "gearing (xxx)" is a rebuild for a locomotive. This one, considering the context, changes the locomotive TE, Speed and maybe Livery.

Freight - lower speed, higher te
Express - higher te, lower speed

As I thought.

I'm not sure how useful the feature would be, except for adding the gearing refit, and that clearly only applies to engines, where I can't imagine wanting some freight locos and some express locos. Personally I only use single-cargo consists, so being able to refit only some cars doesn't really seem like a feature to me.

But changing TE, speed, and power with refitting will be nice (and for LV too).

Well - I use mixedfreight trains, often with 4-5 types of cargo, so refitting and moving cars around is kinda/sorta painful.

The other option would be an eye candy - with several livieries for the same cargo (as DBXL or Planeset do have) one would save onself A LOT of work.

The vehicle rebuilding feature would allow making some sensible upgrades to the rolling stock. The most known example is USSet GG1 which had two versions - one 100 mph for passanger and one 90 mph for freight - with different tractive effort aswell.

> But changing TE, speed, and power with refitting will be nice

Changing TE, speed and power is already possible by callback36. And its even possible to link that CB by an "indirect" refit via prop25. E.g., the BR111 in the DBXL comes in different liveries depending on the coach refit, e.g. "S-Bahn" or "Lufthansa Airport Express". Now when refitting to "S-Bahn" not only the livery of the 111 will be changed to S-Bahn livery but its speed as well is reduced to 120km/h. Likewise with LAE livery its speed is increased to 160km/h.

> The most known example is USSet GG1 which had two versions - one 100 mph for passanger and one 90 mph for freight - with different tractive effort aswell.

O/c this would be also possible with TE and freight engines.

Granted, that´s not a "direct refit" (via gearing) like in Adam´s proposal but in principal, it´s already feasible.

regards
Michael

Ans something like that is impossible for RVs AFAIK.

The picture uzurpator showed us made me wonder because it might actually be of a great help. I use mixed consists of freight trains a lot as well and this might just help me quickening things a bit.
