[Help] Getting off the ground

Post by Train-a-Mania »

I've decided to start creating content for LoMo.

However, I'm completely new to this, and I don't know what I need, how to use it, etc.

Could someone help me out?

Well, I've written a mini-guide. In russian.
What exactly do you want to do? Convert from MSTS or make your own in some 3D model editor?

Most Usefull programs:

- Locotool for the .dat files; you can read out the .xml of the /dat then.
- Vehicle Creator (See locomotion-fanpage.something for the download)
- Locomotion (DUH!)
- Graphic editing program.

- Much more

I'm trying to do MSTS 2 Loco conversions, but when I try to load a vehicle, I get the message "Error 53 file not found: zlib.dll." Where is this file?

Don't know. I got this on one computer and don't on another, so I'm working with conversions on one and the second is for MAX models only. :(
Maybe we should ask someone. BTW, have you installed Loco Frontend?

I haven't installed it. Could this be part of the problem?

Thanks, SQ. Although I didn't find the problem related to MSTS 2 Loco, I found a similar problem, searched for the file on my computer, placed it in the same folder, and it now works.

I just have a couple more questions. First of all, people have had problems with equipment being too long. How do you solve this?

Also, when you export the files, where are they exported to?

Thanks for your help.

Please explain.

Okay, I found them. How do I put them into Locomotion?

EDIT: The problem I was talking about, you experienced when you started making your Russian set. IA told you to do this.
Illegal_Alien wrote:You train lenght is to large, you need to make it smaller. (Well he is looking on al sizes a bit to big, make it smaller, and you will get lesser clipping, distance between cars can be solved by moving the bogey position. (Trial and error)
I'm asking, how do you do that?

Yes, but when I try to open it, it says "Component vbalARLB6.ocx or one of its dependencies not currently registered: a file is missing or invalid"

What do you suppose this is?

Again, I got this on the same computer and don't on another. And I'm just too lazy to find out what and why, just convert on other computer.

I thought that it's because i've installed Frontend or some VB components for it. Sorry that I cant help. Maybe google again? :?

Okay, I figured out that problem by searching for the file again.

Now, my final question is: How do I convert the .def file to .dat?

EDIT: Actually, I lied. I have a couple more questions.

First of all, do you have to change all of the BMPs to PNGs?

Also, how do you use the Locomotion palette?

Thanks for your help!

Thank you, IA, but I have a few more questions.

When I try to save the locomotive after I've edited it in VC, it says that it has encountered an error. I am able to save it as an XML file, however.

How do Wally and LoMo pallete work together? How do I use them?

Thanks again for all you help.

Okay, I was able to save it as a DAT file now.

Does anyone else know how to use Wally?

I do! Here are some screens, guess they are self-explaining. Use File-Batch. Set everything like on pics. And it will convert bmp to png and apply the pallette the same time.
