Help getting TTD to run on WinXP

I've been trying to get transport tycoon deluxe to run on windows XP.. I've downloaded the patch.. but still I get 3 errors

"E:\games\ttd\TYCOON.EXE
The system cannot open COM2 port requested by the application. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

"E:\games\ttd\TYCOON.EXE
The system cannot open COM3 port requested by the application. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

"E:\games\ttd\TYCOON.EXE
The system cannot open COM4 port requested by the application. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

I can click ignore on all of them.. and it will let me into the game.. For about 5 seconds at which time it exits transport tycoon with no error or hint of what is going wrong.

Anyone know what to do about this?

Hi and welcome, only one topic is enough

You probably have the Dos version of TTD and are using the windows patch ???

Some more info perhaps ?

Yup.. Dos version.. Tried the dos patch... still no luck...

What other info do ya need?

Dos version doesn't work under XP !
Try and download the windows version, there are links in the general TT forum !!!

Dowload and installation worked well. Patching to, But when I run the game It tells me that it can't access theTTD cd ???
I got the game from transporttycoon.co.uk

it is because you probably don't set 'win2k' to on
(on win XP if you don't set it to on TTD tells you there is no CD)

btw. Are you running game by ttdpatchw.exe or GameGFX.exe ?

With TTDPatch Starter (from my sig), with that you can change the settings. You have to run ttdpatchw.exe

And last but not least: THERE IS A MANUAL!

if you want to Patch game you have to run TTD always by ttdpatchw.exe
and eery changes you can change by changing ttdpatch.cfg (try some tools to create/edit it: http://www.ttdpatch.com/tools.html )

I'used the patch that was came with the game, so when i'm trying to download the patch from Shadows home page it doesn't work(The requested URL /~shadow/tp/download/ttdpt19w.zip was not found on this server).
when I try via Arathorns' sig I can't find the homepage

http://www.ttdpatch.com is already off-line all morning.
So you can't download the patch at the moment.
