[RELEASED] The Island of Sodor V1.4

Post by Train-a-Mania »

You remember the days when you would watch Thomas the Tank Engine on TV? Well, Thomas' home, the Island of Sodor, is coming to Locomotion.

That's right. I plan on releasing the Island of Sodor this weekend.

If anyone would like to make TTTE trains for Locomotion, now is the time.

EDIT: Did I say this weekend? I meant near the end of the month.

RELEASE: After months of saying I'll work on it, it's finally done!

Name: The Island of Sodor
Goal: Deliver 100,000 tons of coal/slate (a few of the coal mines I called slate mines)
Difficulty level: Challenging (Tough to get it started)
Competitors: None

This map includes the whole island, the Isle of Man, and part of England. You may recognize a few landmarks, such as Brendam docks, Gordon's hill, Henry's forest, and so on.

But that's not all:

The download includes the official Island of Sodor Guide, which includes a locomotive naming guide, explains my theories on the "special" industries (such as the fish market), and many other tid-bits.

Please enjoy!

P.S. I'd like to dedicate this to the Rev. Audry. Without him, none of this would be possibe!

EDIT 3: I've fixed the scenario so that the earth slopes and Class 42 are no longer required.

EDIT 4 (11/8/06): V1.2 Released. I removed the station mod.

EDIT 5 (11/9/06): V1.3 Released. I removed the extra content from Trensim.com.

EDIT 6 (11/9/06): V1.4 Released. I had a report that a sound file (which hadn't been selected in the scenario) snuck into the download, so I removed it.

EDIT 7 (12/23/06): I've given up on trying to remove that sound file. It is part of the Class 42 "Warship" by Pikkabird available here, his 1927 Express Passenger Carriage here, and Steve's Earthslopes here.

EDIT 8 (8/20/07): I've restarted work on a brand new Island of Sodor V2.0. This new version will require no extra files, improve the old version, and include textures to show where tracks should be built. This will take a month or two.

EDIT 9 (11/29/09): I haven't done much work (barely any, really) on V2.0. I don't play LoMo these days, so V2 may never come out. I apologize for the disappointment, but I'm much busier than I was when I began the project.

Also, check out the Thomas the Tank Engine Pack V1.2 here.

I was working a Thomas a while back. (but it buggered up)

Perhaps I should try again?

Anyway, sounds like a fun scenario.

Why not just convert an existing engine? Repaint it and add a smiley face to the front...

That would be okay, except do you think that you could make it so that each locomotive only has one paint livery (theirs)? This would be so that you could have a red James and a blue Gordon.

I definitely think you should work on those models.

I'm going away for a few days, so the release will have to wait. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about it.

Were there ever any maps of the Island of Sodor released? I always wondered what it looked like, if only to justify the huge long-distance locomotives (like Gordon and Henry) that ran on its railways.

I didnt know that Wikipedia had so much information on the Island of Sodor, so I will incorporate that. The map I am using is a copy in a book of one drawn by the Rev. Audry himself, but it doesnt show things such as Culdees rack railway. Thanks!

The amount of info on Wiki is just frankly stupid, theres so much stuff on there and in my experince its pretty accurate, check out my only train related article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severn_Beach_Line

I get it to work... sorry thats totally off topic i suppose

Wow, those maps are brilliant!

I love looking at maps, and I've always wondered if they kept a set of information or a map to keep all the stories consistent.

Okay, here's the deal.

I have the Island itself done, but I do not have the surrounding lands.

Should I have the surrounding lands, or wouldn't it matter.

If you think I should, speak up. Otherwise, I will just continue work on the Island without any surrounding land.

Edit: When I say that I have the Island done, I mean that I have generated a landscape for it, but that's all.

I think you should have the bit of the mainland UK next to it, since there was a bridge connecting the Island's railways to the national network at Barrow (I think)

You need the Ilse of Man and that bit of England in there!

That was kind of the point of the island, people would travel through it to get to Manx or the Britain mainland.

Thanks. I will do that then.

I'll see if it can be released this weekend.

By the way, 2-10-0, will you be able to release your Thomas trains?

Nope. :D

Pallette problems... And I'm not going to waste hours manually recoluring over a hundred sprites for a game I no longer play.
