#tycoon @ QuakeNet <plug shame=false>
Just a shameless plug for a certain IRC channel. irc.quakenet.org >> #tycoon
Not many people in there atm, I'm sure we can grow if just some of the 400 or so people on this board took the time to mosey on over.
Usual rules apply (no pm's to ops, no channel notices, away scripts, etc. - the usual anti-lameness stuff )
<cheese>See you all there</cheese>
</plug>

I used to use it butit is useless and it is not safe ...spaceman-spiff wrote:Never done it, it's for chatting I think
Spiff .. yes it is for chatting and sending files .. but it can be very simple way to have an acces to someone who hasn't got firewall ... (there are vmanybad viruses (not right writed?) spread by IRC quickly)
Sorry to bring it to you like this shadow-xiii.. But your probably exposing your system more by using msn messenger/icq/explorer.. If your so afraid that you will catch some virii from there just dont accept any *.js *.vbs and so on from dcc:s(better yet, dont use mIRC(or even better, dont use a m$ os))
I'll drop by Chris, I use IRC all the time and never ever had problems with IRC! Never got any viruses or something, I can't understand how u can get them? U must accept the file they are trying to send you, never put them on autoget otherwise u can get abused but that is just basic safety rules. Also I almost never got any trouble with spammers, well none on good networks where they have a good policy about those things (the famous k-line and z-line==> ban them from the network permantly)
So everyone join it is great fun,
some good ircclients are kIRC, mIRC, bersirc, leafchat,...

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, my advice is:
Windows users can use mIRC - preferably without any lame scripts attached. By default, most DCC sends on the more harmful file types are ignored.
Linux users can use xchat, or anything based on ircii - I personally have no experience with these, since the only machine I can run them on doesn't have a net connection
Macintosh users can run any of the above clients. That is, after they've got hold of a *proper* computer. :oP
I don't see what all the fuss is about with stuff like IRC trojans etc. since all of these problems can be averted with just a little bit of "clue".
Also, QuakeNet has a tough line on spammers. They not only find themselves banned from my channels, sometimes they even end up G-lined ...

On the channel there should always be one bot (^XP^) and a network service (L). Not to mention people with always-on connections and/or bouncers who will only appear to be online. If people stayed in, maybe they'd eventually find someone to talk, like me (who's about to join ...)
