Original text:
I am sitting here packaging up the amtrak stuff and i am looking at all the stuff I have already converted that is just sitting here. so I decided to open this topic because I know personally that a lot of people are waiting for this. I am calling It North american Because there is a Lot of canadian stuff in my collection. CP and CN stuff is quite common in the Midwest. this started out as a personal conversion mostly because i enjoyed lomo and hated the default american stuff. who knows maybe i'll never get around to doing this..... I never really wanted to do the US set. but, it needs to be done.

I plan to get the amtrak pack out in the next few days it is just not holding my attention or intrest. i preffer US freight stuff. I am going to list off what i have have already to stuff into a US pack.

I have several Screen shots floating around the forums with a lot of these items in action. i will add new ones at a later time

/end

Ok this will take a group effort to get this stuff released.
i would love comments good or bad i like to get stuff done right so i will need your feedback on items. please test them before you say good or bad. why you like it or hate it. I will need help on this. report bugs here or in PM's

Just because i have it, does not mean it will see the light of day, there are copywrite issues and so forth.
(pluss my own lazyness)

My stuff is scaled a little differant then some other packs. My items are rescaled to better match the exisiting cartoon size of the stuff already in the game.

I am not sure how this will be released. large packs, small packs, by type? diesel hood unit pack 1? tank car pack 1?

Wish List
Did i miss anything we MUST have?
Go ahead and ask what you want, I might have it or over looked it.

Pictures and stats are helpfull when requesting.

I have to say that's an impressive list. I'd been trolling here, silently rooting the NEC pack on, but with it's decline this sounds every bit as cool. From what you've shown us all so far it's certainly something to look forward to.

I'm a huge fan of electric traction, so if I can be any help on the matter I'm more than willing to lend a hand.

For the AEM7 and AEM7AC you might want to model them as two different locomotives. The original AEM7 would be a 125mph 5800-6000hp in around 1980 while the AEM7AC would reflect the remanufactured locomotives from the year 2000 with 7000hp but still 125mph. I'm not sure if you want to go into that detail, you may be better off converting the 8000hp, 135mph HHP-8 to serve as a kind of replacement for the AEM7. In real life it has failed miserably while trying to replace the E60.

Just out of curiousity what is a P1 or P2? I see you have the P5, which I'd assume is the GG1 predecessor electric which the PRR used. Of course the P5 underwent a conversion early in its life from a boxcab to the GG1 style centercab. Near as I can tell the only version of that for MSTS is the boxcab, which is kind of cool since otherwise it looks just like a small GG1.

Perhaps the biggest thing missing from the original game is a total lack of third rail locomotives. It's quite frustrating to build an third rail system early in the game to take advantage of the EMU but then not be able to use it to provide better freight service. Train-Sim.com does list one New York Central P motor in both the Cleveland overhead catenary and NYC third rail variants. Unfortunately it appears nobody has completed an NY Central S or T motor, or a PRR DD1 or L5, so the rather late occuring P motor (build for Cleveland's overhead cat in 1929, moved to NYC and modified for third rail in 1953) is the only option without going out and building a new model. I'd love to try my hand at making a Gmax model once I learn that program, and the early occuring S motor would be a great one to try since it's conspiciously absent from Train-Sim.com.

Would "Coaster" be a bunch of locomotive hauled bilevel commuter cars similar to what GO operates or would it be a small single level DMU? I know there's an MSTS model of the Siemens Desiro DMU being built for the Sprinter light rail line in San Diego on Train-sim.com. Either way I'd be thrilled, I've been wishing for US model bilevel commuter cars.

The one thing to be aware of is that the "E44" on Train-Sim.com is painted in New Haven colors when they never rostered them. The New Haven had E33s, which they called EF-4s. The Virginian ordered those locomotives from General Electric and designated them EL-Cs. When the Virginian's electrification folded in the early 1960s the power strapped New Haven picked up the nearly new electric locos. It wouldn't be very hard to repaint the bright red New Haven E44 into the Pennsy's dip-job black, but then I don't know how the company colors of Locomotion would change it.

You have a definite point with the permission and copyright issues. You may run into problems with the AEM7, F40, GG1 and other models since they're from North American Locomotive Works. From what I've heard NALW doesn't really like people changing their stuff, it sounds like they've fought to keep such stuff off Train-sim.com.

Finally, no, GO is not in New Jersey. GO is in Toronto Canada. New Jersey Transit serves NJ.

Still, I'm greatly excited for even a fraction of what you proposed here.

ISA:

i do have a GEVO that i could possibly put into Lomo.

Plastikman:

http://www.startrekgaming.com/moon_xl/msts/zips/ contains some of my old MSTS models, you can have whatever you think you like out of em for conversion. id personally like the SD9.

also, as i stated above, i have an ES44 and an SD70ACe / M-2 as well. my SD70ACe is already in lomo form in CSX colors.

Thats great. i can start on yours while i wait for permission on everthing else, starting with the SD9.

let me get the @#$#@ $ amtrak pack done. it is agrivating me because i changed my naming convention 1/2 way through. that, and the steamers distracted me. sorry but somehow i thought steamers were more important! lol Thanks again.

I just hope i can do them the justice they deserve

I know you're doing interurbans (I love them), so is one of them gonna be a baggage motor? You know, carrying mail and goods on a quiet route?

That list looks absolutely amazing, we've been waiting for a US set ever since the game came out and we saw how we had all of SIX locomotives to play with in the North American environment.

WHAT! 6 !!! OMFG #@%@$#%@$# thats to many for 100 years!! take a few more out!

baggage motor: Unknown I wanted to even make a narrow guage steeple cab with a generic carry all box car for running on tram tracks. maybe i could try narow guage? the problem is msts2lomo cant render steep hills. as far as baggage motor, you mean like the interurban cars that were gutted to carry goods? that would be a cool idea. not very usefull in the game, but neat. guess it could haul mail town to town or across town. maybe make a mail trailer for other other interurbans.

Yeah, that seems the only logical explanation for how the game was shipped. I'm especially amused with the two locos you start with in the US climate looking positively Civil War-vintage. Where the hell was the Consolidation when they were making their vehicle list?
baggage motor: Unknown I wanted to even make a narrow guage steeple cab with a generic carry all box car for running on tram tracks. maybe i could try narow guage? the problem is msts2lomo cant render steep hills. as far as baggage motor, you mean like the interurban cars that were gutted to carry goods? that would be a cool idea. not very usefull in the game, but neat. guess it could haul mail town to town or across town. maybe make a mail trailer for other other interurbans.
Yeah, if you look at http://www.lnps.info you'll see what I mean by a baggage motor - it is specially built with a sliding cargo door to collect goods. I've ridden on one that was a combination - two thirds were seats, and a third was a cargo area (sort of like the 747 Combi jets). There were also matching wooden passenger trailers for the interurbans (fitted with multiple unit controls so they could be used like a DVT). The narrowgauge thing is an idea - although if we're doing interurbans than we'd be better off trying to resurrect the failed 'standard gauge tracks running down a main road' idea that was passed around here ages ago.

I'll stop being so demanding now, hee hee! :o I'm excited, I can't help it!

I can quess the North America climate was the last one to be made, and the release date ended up coming too early, thus lack of locomotives.

And Atari hasn't even paid Chris the money he was supposed to have, it is no wonder the locomotive selection in North American climate is lacking.

Edit: wow is this an old picture, it is sort of funny how bad the old set looks. I want to update this picture so bad. I'll leave it for nastalga.... /edit

Well as Amtrak is sitting in the yard waiting to roll out. the North American stuff is starting to flow. I think i converted about 35 items in the last 48 hours. Here is a quick WIP of Norfolk southerns stuff.

A few items are headed back to the paint shop. the SD9 and the dash9's for sure. they are way to dark on the roof. I like the look of the silver radiators i put on the NS dash9.

I gotta say man, i just read the entire thread and i am amazed how much detail you are putting into all of these engines. i cant wait to see the release for them and use them in a map.

Keep up the wicked work man, and if someone could give me a quick tutorial on beta testing the stuff, i will try and help you if it isnt too hard.

#1... i was avoiding the switchers for now, looking more for road diesels.. but sure since you asked.
#2 funny you should ask. i just email requests to use some F units an alco PA and a sharknose lastnight. you might see some gp7's & 9's and WILL see an SD-9 real soon. (pictured above) I decided it was best to start modern and work backwards for the engines. i cant wait till i hit steam!
#3 i dont have many alcos, a few RS's and a PA. ooh yeah and centurys.
#4 umm.. i am done with passanger for a little bit minus a few early F unit and steam set i have up my sleave. i do have a few commuter sets close to ready to go. along with some subway cars. that was not on the list. BUT... if you can get me some dead on or close to it 90 degree photos, i can spit out a photo real version in a few min. (how i made the surfliners and caltran).
#5 you will see more variaty in road names. I did a CBQ 2 nights ago. i have 2 very large groups of diesels that i already have permision to use, those are mostly Santa Fe. Norfolk Southern , Canadian and BNSF but i am slowly repianting them or sending out requests for repaints. i expect the first release to be the default paint i got the engine in then paint them as needed (I repainted Justin's's SD-40 in Soo and SF warbonnet already). i am a fan of early SF, UP and CN&W. so.. also from trial and error some paint jobs just dont work in lomo. CBQ, great northern, and rio grande. ill keep trying though because i want them also. also i want to try the default (company) colors.

i realized i am a mess with stuff everywhere on my hard drive, i stopped converting yesterday and spent 12 hours (and counting) organising my drive and in execl. I need to come up with a formula and standards in the set. the worst right now is figguring when the diesel types phase out. also a naming standard like USGP4001.dat = US(set)GP40(what it is a GP40)01(roadname) 01=BNSF or USGB5001.dat = US(set)GB50(goods boxcar 50 foot)01(roadname)
North American sets and then some...
