Victorian Trams (AU) (Alpha-REL)

Post by Raichase »

G'day guys.

When Stevenh started work on his trams patch, I leapt into action converting my existing trams into proper trams. As I wasn't happy with the scheme that Sydney trams would lead to (ie vanishing forever), I started a Victorian Tram Set.

Here is the first, proper, public release of this set. It's not finished yet, it's only half done, but it's playable, and it looks pretty good (IMO). Please report to me any bugs you find, and any comments you have.

This is my first go at coding a dos grf, so if there are any problems, post them here - Robotboy promised to convert my grf files if I can't :)).

Still to be added to the set:

The Z-Class of 1975
The Z3-Class of 1984
The A2-Class of 1987
The B2-Class of 2001 (articulated, so perhaps not in the set immediatly)

I also have to do a proper readme, more liveries for the C-Class (it represents the original A-H classes from the various tram companies before unification, and as such will be randomised eventually), as well as perhaps drawing some random liveries for other tram companys for present day trams.

I would also like to do a 2 CC version of the set too, but thats after I get this set done.

Enjoy!

EDIT (22/12): Fixed name of GRF - used to show "STA Bus Set", now should say "Victorian Trams"

I can't use DOS grfs, but the PCX came out fine when I decoded the grf.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

I say you should tackle South Australian trams next.

In 1929, we have this:

Then skip forward to 2006, we have this:

Great work! Finally some trams to use! :D But isn't the price of the first one, the C-class a bit un balanced? It costs ten times as much as a train. :?:

EDIT: And the W-6 (or whatever, the last one) costs about 1000£ isn't that too small an amount?

Interesting, I haven't noticed that. Thankyou, that will be fixed in the next version.

Ah, thankyou. I haven't had time to work on the pricing scheme yet, as it's just a work in progress, but at least I know it needs work ;).

Robotboy - Thankyou again, I'll be sure to fix the ID's for the next release.

I love 'em.

However, at least in the C-class tram, the sprites for the diagonal directions don't line up properly yet. (I've attached a PNG to illustrate.) All seem to be off by one pixel, but #3 especially jumps out, as it seems to be hovering above the tracks it's intended to run on.

Try Oskar's new alignment helper window. Open the GRF Status Window, click on your tram grf, and ctrl-click in the description area. Then enter the sprite number in question and adjust until it's right. Then write down the numbers.

Much easier that way :)

Well, I'm planning to draw all of the trams, I need for the set (I gotta list by my PC now ;)), including some of the mutli-trams if and when that becomes possible.

I plan to include a selection. Doing all trams in Victoria would be rather fruitless, as I would chew through too many RV Veh ID's.

Please, could you change the used IDs due to trams IDs discussion

http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=390095#390095

I hope 21 IDs 33h-47h are enoungth for you. if not, you can use 16 reserved IDs 23h-32h. that is 37 IDs. I hope you can fit in. Also, please use IDs this way (that will allow better IDs distribution between sets while they are not full sets)

I'll confer with Pikka, as I'm trying to avoid conflicts with his HOVS set, as these are all the same scale.

I hope Pikka would also rearrange vehicles with suggested IDs usage schema, because he planned (IIRC) to add trucks too.
This way sets conflicting with each other could hold trams separately, so the player can use any possible combination of RV and tram sets
