ok, i don't come on at weekends, so, thats why no reply sooner.
your picture of the junction, number 1 is a 90 degree turn. only real way to avoid it is to make the junction bigger.
2 and 3 are 45 degree turns, those are fine, however if 1 is closly followed by another, the train will slow down on the second turn. those are close enough to slow down the train a bit, but not by much, you should only notice it on faster trains.
in the image you posted, your trains are looping around because you are using some 1 way signals.
this is a normal station, lets train in and out of the same end.
this is the same principle, but lets trains in either end, and out either end.
a roro station only lets trains in 1 end and out the other.
this is a roro station.
this 1 also includes a bypass lane.
see here for a little more reference. http://www.bttdw.homestead.com/Rail.html
its a very old site i made for the original game, so, some of it doesn't apply, and it doesn't include pre-signalling.

New Questions
1. How do you buy a competitor?
2. Can you move a waypoint? (Sometimes in redisign I may need to move a waypoint a few tiles but several trains may already have this waypoint in their orders.)
3. How do you check your ratings in a town? (Stations, I figured out. Towns I can't)

Excellent! Thanks!
4. Is there a way to send all trains to depot? Something like "select all" for the trains list, right click depot? I'm stretching now, aren't I?

Nah. To convert to monorail for the first time ever last night I clicked each train on the whole map and depoted them. Then I dragged the convert tool across the map. Then I built temporary monorail depots next to the train depots holding trains. Built monorail counterparts. Copied orders. Sold trains. Replaced train depots with monorail depots and then deleted temp depots.
I was just looking for a way not to have to click each train and click depot.
5. Are the train names in OpenTTD accurate up to the point where they get fictional? If not, is there a way to correct this? My dad is kind of a train nut and I don't wan to tell him I have gotten in to a train game until I know the models of the trains available, etc.
6. Will planes auto service themselves at airports?

7. Where do "valuables" get transported from/to? Vehicle option in random map games, but no source/destination.
7. Bank to bank. They have to be taken from one bank to a different bank, and it can take a long time before a random game gets two banks.

7) The major reason for the delay is that temperate banks cannot be built in towns with a population of less than 1200.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
