I need help with the site. PNG files to be exact

Is there any downside to making a file a PNG. I've only just noticed, that
with Frontpage 2000, I had a huge screenshot, so I thought, I'll see what
PNG is like.
And it reduced an 100sec document to a 14second one.
Surely there must be a catch! Can only up to date browsers view them? Are
they non functional with Netscape Navigator.
If I'd've known this before, then I wouldn't have had to sacrfice quality
for speed.

So, can anyone help me with this enquiry?

censor the Net. I'm all for!)

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a royalty free image format that's
supposed to replace GIF for which you have to pay royalties. It's
currently the recommended format by W3C. It has a few advantages like
gamma information, copyright info etc.

Some people like to write out the acronym as "PNG's Not Gif", and it's
pronounced like "ping".
And it reduced an 100sec document to a 14second one.

Yes, unfortunately it's pretty young format.

Mine (4.6) does, for the rest there is a plug-in to be downloaded.

I hope I did.

I think in the future we will see more and more PNGs, but right now they
are still pretty uncommon.

Good luck. Not with censoring the net though...
