New E-mail address!

Post by Christie Lewis »

My new address is...

christielewis@world#mailer.com
(without the hash)

I'm also changing my traditional header corruption to a spam protected
version of this...

I hate spam screwer thingys. I know it doesn't take long to correct an email
address, but it's just the inconvenience of having to type it all again.
Especially with OE5, when it just puts a name down as the recepient. Then
you have to manually type it.

I don't think I've been spammed from this newsgroup. Well I may have, but I
just delete them, and end of problem.

Lucky you. I used to get quite a lot of spam until I started reporting
it and changed my address for the ng's. It does work

I resisted spam-trapping for as long as it took to receive 2 dozen spam messages
(about 1½ months). If you are really using OE5, you have my deepest sympathy. It
took me only hours to decide that if that was all I could use to read email and
newsgroups then I wouldn't bother!

I don't know if I have been spammed from this group or not: as I contribute
regularly to three others (all several times larger), it seems less likely that
it originated here, but I can't be bothered to change all my preferences every
time I reply to an agmtt message.

Well, it's still very annoying if you're getting several a week. And
instead of deleting, I make a point of complaining to the originating
ISP, which gives a kill-rate (of accounts, not people!) of about 25%.
Every fourth spam I get results in a bit inconvenience to the spammer,
which is only fair after all.

Same here. Not only do I dislike OE, I have some antipathy against all
that is Microsoft...

Some free alternatives:
-email: Eudora Light 3.0.6 http://eudora.qualcomm.com/eudoralight/
-news: Free Agent 1.11 http://www.forteinc.com/agent/freagent.htm
Gravity 2.12. http://www.microplanet.com/download.htm (not free
but very good)

I don't think you can find out which group was harvested, unless you have
a different email address in each. The way it works is the spammer
downloads all messages from all newsgroups (or at least many), extracts
everything that is an email address and puts it into a database.

Then this database gets sold to people who are dumb enough to buy it.

You cannot be sure whether it is this group you are getting spammed from.
Some web hosting company may have sold your name on. It's too difficult.
BTW I complain a lot. The only problem is they usually use false email
addys.

I think OE is OK. It does what I want it to. Collect email, send email, and
view and post to NG's
That's what everyon program does. And do you know what, there is no need to
register.
How anyone can put up with Agent's Windows 3.1 interface is beyond me.

It won't take long before this message is taken out of context, and is about
20 threads long. Not so long ago, we did have a debate on newsreaders. It
bored me rigid!

(BTW Josef, you'll be added to the list of regulars to the group on my

Yeah, I was using Netscape Communicator, but the offline mode just doesn't
cut it. OE is a doddle.
