Anyone here got one of those tiny little smart cars?

We're still waiting for them to come to the US.

In Holland you can see them them resonably often.
Because off their specific looks, the most of them are used for advertising as a moving billboard.

One of my friends at school has a smart car. Handles well at low speeds but understeer can be a problem at higher speeds. Nice sounding engine, good ride, altogether not a bad little number if you aint afraid of heights! :)

I've always wanted to see if you can park one sideways on a street, at a right angle to all the other cars. Would save the hassle of reverse parking.

There are actually quite a lot of Smarts here in Germany (Munich). I know at least three people who own one, and I've seen a lot more. They are actually pretty popular.

If they come to America, the question is would the average poulation fit into them... They seem to have enough problems with the normal cars...

Maybe I should drive one. Reverse parking is the bane of me passing my driving test.

There's tons of them in Mexico, even my aunt has one.

Although I have seen none in Canada as of yet...

Ouch, imagine a Humvee 2 Driving into a smart... Its bad enough even with the normal cars, but a smart... It would be flattened.

You're right about the collisions. It's simple physics - if you drive a small car and collide with a large car, your change in momentum will be greater --> greater change in acceleration on your body --> in short, more severe damage than the guy in the larger car.

I'm just afraid that this will motivate more and more people to buy larger cars EVEN IF THEY DON'T NEED THE SPACE but just as a safety precaution. The more people drive large cars --> more people feel the need to drive large cars too --> everyone will drive around in huge, half-a-gallon-of-fuel-pr-mile monster SUVs.

Environment friendly? Sure as hell not.

Go Smart! :)

yeah one thing that annoys me is these people that drive big 4x4's for no reason what so ever, as though its a status symbol. If you live in the country or on a farm or have a genuine need for one then thats cool, but these mums that need them to ferry kids to and from school its rediculus. its as though it makes them feel more confident on the roads as though they have more of a presence, i hate them i take them on in my clio (old style not the crappy new ones)

Hmm, saw an article recently about a Mini driver in the US (think of a Mini compared with a typical American car)... was an interesting read... newsgroup article, BBC News.

Reminds me of what I thought the cars were like when I looked down from the Arc de Triomphe, one February night some four years ago...
