change construction cost setting ?

Post by sobo »

is it possible by Cht or other mean to change the difficulty setting "construction cost" in an existing game ?

its set to High and I find it impossible to get a performance rating of 6 on the avg on trains in the DBset XL, with an engine easily costing 50 mio €

Yes.
However, you seem to be confused about the difference between "construction cost" and "vehicle running cost".
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

No im actually talking about the construction cost (construction of tracks, stations, new vehicles and that stuff)

the vehicle running cost in TTD is joke in no matter what setting :D

Try the US set, you may find that more challenging.

that was only a statement beside the point though.. Thx for the recommendation anyway.

But is it possible to change the vehicle cost anyhow?

Please don't do that, unless prefixed with an "OT:" or similar. The only thing it'll achieve is to confuse the people who read your message.

Yes, in the GRF encoding. Otherwise not.

But ive got a savegame from Rob using the DBsetXL, his vehicle costs are FAR less, so its actually possible getting a rating greater than 0 or 1 on them ..
So with the same set the contruction cost obviously varies, and I wondered whether it could be changed without starting a new game ?

Click on the "Difficulty settings" button in the TTD main screen, and then change "Cost of Construction" (or something close to that) as appropriate. This cannot be done in-game, however, it is possible to load your savegame in the scenario editor, change it there, and then re-load the game. This brings other everse side effects, however, such as the AI getting your old company, and you forming a new one, and your station graphics getting messed up.

I believe if you <CTRL-click> on the save menu you get save/load game instead of save/load scenario.

I've never tried it, but I understand it's supposed to fix the problems you are listing, SC.

thx Dale, that worked, I could change the construction cost setting. However trains still cost ridiculously much :x

Isnt there any any difficulty setting determining the cost of vehicles? i though construction cost included that :?

At the time the US set was coded, we used a hack to allow for very large prices. Part of the side-effects of that hack was that the cost settings don't actually change anything. In the next version, I think perhaps we may not have that problem, but I'm not sure.

I think the setting only determines the cost of trains when they're introduced. if they're in the game already you're out of luck. Only thing you could try then is Cht: resetengines (did I get that right?)

im not using the US set krtaylor
the resetvehicles cheat did apply to the game properly but did not change anythign (after i set the setting to low in the game editor)

Did maybe the aplha 42 update of DBsetXL introduce these ENORMOUS costs to trains ? does anyone else experience them

Yes, Michael wanted to make the game more challenging by making the locomotives more expensive - it worked, now everyone can't just re-fit their fleet to the BR103 when it is created.

ot: well i find its only possible to get scores >6 with the old electric engines that have 40+ years of lifetime :\
so nerfing the new engines like that is a bit over the limit, well ill just ignore the performance rating then.
