Jinty, Stirling 8FT, Fowler 4F for Narrow gauge.

Post by Villem »

I quickly tweaked the prices and stats, and made them NG. Just Extract to ObjData folder, but remember you need to enable them from scenario editor for the map before you can use them.
You also might want to enable the related narrow gauge carriages.

Screeny for those who want to see even if they know what they already look like.

Heres a new version, i felt they gone in the wrong direction when i reduced their HP from their normal varieties, so i increased their horsepower so it is a little higher than the ones for standard track, but their speed is half of the originals.

Narrow guage locomotives

Post by natethegreat »

I want to make a narrow guage version of all the smaller steam engines. What do you change in the xml file to convert a loco from standard to narrow? I have tried it and can't quite get it to work.

FYI When a real steam engine is changed from one guage to another, the horsepower usually stays the same. The top speed may drop, but that is usually caused by the track it runs on. Here in the US, there used to be many small narrow guage railroads. They often bought the same locos as the standard guage competition.

You mean you have 2'0" guage F9's and Big Boys? :P
(EDIT: Actually, i have ridden behind a 7-1/4-inch-gauge F unit :D)

Yeah, in most places in the UK it's the same. Probably because the narrow guage ones were built by standard guage companies (Leek & Manifold by North Staffordshire Railway, etc).
Or just like the Beyer-Garratt company, who built everything from huge 2'0" articulated steam engines in South Africa, to the class 82 standard guage electric locomotives.

So it is feasible to have narrow guage counterparts to the standard locos (and vice versa). :)

<useobject desc="tracktype" class="17">TRACKST </useobject> to <useobject desc="tracktype" class="17">TRACKNG </useobject>

Please note, I said smaller steam engines. There is no need to be flippant.

I tried modifying that one line. I went through all the steps (decompile, edit, rename, recompile)including selecting the new .dat file in the scenario editor. It does not show up in the scenario. Why?

I have edited the engines, and they now have the same horsepower amount as in the full gauge versions.
They are attached in the first post.
