This first screenshot shows you how much has changed, now that we are up to 1988. It shows you "Interbridge Atoll" in all it's glory. The centre track running through the island shows you the "flyer" line in all it's glory.
As already mentioned, this line was built to allow the faster express train (on this line, the BR103) to completely bypass the station, and the slower local trains that stop there.
The BR103, although reliable, is getting old, and is lined up to be replaced by an ICE-1 in the near future (when development on the project is completed and an ICE-1 is sold to our company).
The twice-a-day ferry service to Pirates Island remains, although is mostly only used for historical reasons, as the ferry is as old as the route. Yes folks, thats the ferry from the 40's.

Picture number 2...
This is Pirates Island, about 20 years since the last photo. Productivity of the coal mine there has doubled, but the gold mine has halved. The oil wells continue to produce, but god knows how long before they run dry.
It matters not. Coal is still in plentfull supply, with a number of new mines being opened up to the east. These mines have their coal shunted around by a local railway, run by V100's, over to the docks.
From here, it is sent across the mighty river by bulk freighter, and sent up the watercourse to the west. It is taken to the canyon, where it is loaded onto another train, which takes it up the slopes to the power station. This power station powers the whole western side of the map!
The oil wells up near that power plant have also kicked into overdrive. Currently, the oil is being run down the river by a fleet of three, rather old BR150's, before being loaded onto tankers to be taken down-river, to the Oil Refinery in the SE. The oil is processed, and loaded onto different tankers, and taken back up north to Banley Harbour. Here in the harbour, it is loaded onto a fleet of tanker-trucks, that disperse the products to the various customers of Banley City.
Even though the gold mine is slowing down, it is still more than enough to keep gold exports out of the region high. Especially with the mine up at Chuffies pass still running deeper and deeper.
The island has also expanded, building a series of leivies to control the sea. A bridge to the mainland has been built, and a small bus service introduced to the island. The only public transport off the island remains in the form of the two ferries though, the bus is only running to ferry folks to the docks.

This last one is my personal favorite, as it captures the sense of huslte and bustle at the central station the best...
Starting over at the far left, an extra V100 has been added to the fish route, to try and ferry all the fish from the docks to the food-packing plant as fast as possible. A fleet of 20-odd trucks has finally been purchased to run the food around the city to the various customers. Most of the products produced there are fish, and fish products, but there is also beef, chicken and cereals being produced.
Departing Central Station for the coach sheds, is another rare sight on the network. Not only is it the last BR111 still in local service (the rest of them have been re-painted orange/white and have been pressed into S-Bahn commuter service), but it is also hauling one of the last 5 or so wooden local coaches, from the 1930's.
These coaches, brought onto the network from 1930 till about 1950 or so, were originally bought in great quantities for local services, as well as commuter trains. With the introduction of the VT-08, a lot of these coaches were scrapped, as locomotive-hauled passenger trains took a dive. Some of them were left in the coaching sheds for later use, and were re-introduced when the VT-08 was phased out during electrification. The 20-30 remaining coaches were then distruted amongst BR140's, BR181's, and the odd BR111. In the 70's, most of these coaches were scrapped in favour of newer "Silverfish" coaches. Those that survived, all 5 of them, were thrown on obscure local trains not often used. This was also when the BR111's were replaced with BR181's in local service, and the BR111's were moved into commuter service.
(I don't know how closely that mirrors real life, but thats how it happened on my network).
You will be pleased to know that the BR111 wasn't scrapped, re-painted or replaced, but it's 30's passenger coach was, much to the relief of the comuters. With a shortage of the new local coaches, the old coach was replaced by a retired mainline coach, in the cream/blue livery of the late 70's/early 80's.
On platform 6, two tracks over from the BR111, you can see one of the BR181's in local service loading a train to Megalopolis. Although the locomotive itself is still in cream/blue livery, most of it's coaches have been replaced with the new mint-green coaches (well, some of them are just re-painted, refitted silverfish coaches, but lets not tell the commuters that
).
Arriving on Platform 5, we have the newest express train on the Southern Lines, and the only Inter-city train to Corner Junction. Hauled by a BR181, the train is mostly made up of brand new red Intercity coaches, complete with a buffet car. This train runs daily between Banley City and Corner Junction, and is rather a premium service. It is replacing the long-standing favorite on this route, an aging BR110.
A rather common sight on the commuter lines is the BR420. Here you can see a 6-car set is arriving on Platform 3, on an inbound service. From here, the train will be making all stops back to Banley City Central, stopping at Western Banley (Commuter Station, not mainline), Banley Beaches, and Northern Banley. After stopping again at Central, the train then heads south, stopping at Banley Harbour and terminating at Eastern Banley, where the power stations are.
Finally, the thing that makes this picture is so special...
I draw your attention now, to the siding just to the left of the picture. That train there, is a BR110, built back in 1957, this BR110 was originally introduced on a F-Trains Service, over the mountains to Corner Junction. The mainline through the flats, although faster and shorter, was crowded with local traffic and freight lines, so the only advantage of an express on that line, was that it didn't stop everywhere, so trains could be pre-booked to reduce crowding. Thus, the premium way to get to Corner Junction was still over the mountains.
Oringinally painted in a Cream/Violet livery, the BR110 always added a splash of colour to Central Station. The Rhinegold livery was a far cry from the more common red locomotives and blue coaches of the other express trains. The BR110 was originally given a train of 5 express coaches and 2 baggage vans, but as demand increased without the profit to back it up (mostly due to a recession in the early 60's), more coaches were added. During the 60's, the BR110 was rewarded with a new paint-job, in red/cream TEE livery. This brought it into line with the new running BR103 and the VT-11. However, the BR110 was still the oldest express train in the fleet.
As it required electricity to run, it couldn't power it's way north, as electrification did not extend to Farmers Market. Thus, that line remained the domain of the failed VT-11 (in 1974, the VT-11's were scrapped and the line electrified, replaced with newer BR110's and BR181's), nor did it have the speed to match the BR103, and could not compete on the new express line out to Megalopolis. Thus, it continued in it's service to the south.
Now, in 1988, it has finally been withdrawn from service. It's last run was marked with celebration, as well as a few tears from the folks who have been with the company as long as myself. Not content to send the train, and it's coaches to scrap, I stepped in at the last minute to save it. I could not, I'm afraid, save the Rhinegold coaches, were were scrapped when it was withdrawn. The only reason the other, TEE coaches were spared, is it was thought they might be needed on the BR103 route, or the replacement BR181 train. However, funds were higher than expected, and new Inter-City coaches were ordered for both. I'm sorry I couldn't save the dome-car, but that was one of the original Rhinegold coaches, and was long gone before I could step in.
Now, the BR110 sits still, in the siding, it's coaches sitting behind it. Bus tours are run to the siding, and tourists are shown the train, and told of it's history. We keep her polished, and plan to have her run again on 1st January, 2001, which will mark 80 years of this great company. Here's hoping I live to see the jewel of the company run again.

1. The express pass actually branches off before the bridges, as the bridges are very long, and it was impossible to try and shift the land around. I wanted to have a third, central track for the station, but it just wans't practicalSHADOW-XIII wrote:maybe an express pass should be just after the station tracks

hq: that left part of island, how you did canal walls there ? you build a canal on water level there ?

2. As to the bridges, the express one was longer, and the Cantelever wasn't avaliable at that length. I'm hopefull I can replace the viaduct with Oskars bridge, when it becomes avaliable

3. Thankyou. I can always rely on you having something kind of say about my overly verbose screenshots

4. Pirates Island, that expansion was expensive. The Irish first coined the concept I believe. First, you bulldoze all the water, the build a canal on the outside bulldozed land. You can't build the canal on the water, so you have to bulldoze a lot of water.
That town expansion cost me 20 Million DM+, but it was worth it. It looks pretty

A couple of quick ones...
The first screenie shows the BR103 (now withdrawn from service on the express line, but due to "Patchman Pressure", rather than being scrapped, it was put to use on IC trains. Here you can see it passing it's counterpart on the newly electrified Farmers Express Line, a BR181 with IC train. This BR181 replaced the VT-11, back in the early 70's, and has been re-painted twice since....
The second screenshot shows the BR103 passing it's replacement, a new ICE-1. This was taken shortly before the bridges were upgraded and rebuilt for the higher speeds of the ICE-1.

Gotta tweak the bridges a bit with TTD Alter too, now that it's out.
Here's some on the fly promo screenies for the AU Set. Whitehand, I'm demanding a 10% cut of any customers you get from this post.

Thanks for the comments, as usual
.

Well, those ones were quickies, whipped up with cht:year and cht:money. I can't play a proper game and get proper network screenies without at least as many trains as the original TTD, except with enough added to cover the 1921-1950 section as well.CeleronXL wrote:Dammit, Rai. At the risk of starting to sound like an echo, I was also wondering that!Geo.c Ghost wrote:Raichase, in blue and green pics (the names) where are those buffers from? I havnt seen them around before, only born acorns ones. Are they part of a new set from MB?
Also, CeleronXL, I'd love to see a zoomed in pic of that junction
