AFAIK, you can just decompile with GRFCodec. Start grfcodec.exe -d grfname.grf, also don't read grfcodec.txt ;-)

Assuming you have grf codec and NARS2.grf in the same directory on a hard drive (eg. C:\GRFCODEC)
open the run command from the windows start menu or presse the Windows Key + R to bring up the run command
type in...
C:\GRFCODEC\GRFCODEC.EXE -D NARS2.GRF
That will extra both the grf source code and pcx sprites (which can be opened in irfan View or Photoshop)

Check that again, I think you'll see a mistake.

The readme would explain all this also.

I decoded the grf file. I see so many audio files, but the first time I meet with .nfo
I can not open it in program GRFMaker.

What are you trying to do? There should be a /sprites directory, which is where I believe the sprites are.

Peter, I trying to open source file with GRFMaker. Unfortunately, this program opens only .lst files.
I was expecting the file .lst not .nfo
Is there any possibility conversion nfo to lst....?

GRFMaker has the menu choice Edit --> Paste NFO file but it is quite experimental, and gives one GRFMaker line for each NFO line, not exactly the same thing as when you create something directly in GRFMaker. Many NFO lines will get converted to 'Manual NFO block' in GRFMaker, which will not make you any wiser. It might work, but most probably not...

You can try stevenh's GRF Hacking page or frosch's Grf2Html to help you understand the contents of an NFO. With stevenh's page it is also possible to edit the NFO, but I don't know the current state of that page (no obvious updates for over a year).

I think you applied the wagon speed limit option, and these small hoppers can go only with 56 km/h. Buy new hoppers.

Pikka, Dan, ach it's never going to happen, but there's a serious of awesome photos that made me think about a Chile / Bolivia rail set. Mostly GM EMD / GE locomotives, and colonial-style wagons....

GE box cabs in very pretty colours:

Spectacular desert railroading

Enjoy :)

Hey Pikka, I'm curious... whatever happened to the streamlined 4-8-4s you mentioned some time ago? Did they get scrapped, or are they still in the works for a later update?

They're still in the works for a later update. I took a break from spriting for awhile, and now I'm concentrating on more stuff/revisions to existing stuff on the Canadian Set before committing to more NARS stuff.

I have been playing with NARS 2.03 and its a nice set to play with, but i have one question? Why do locos have less power at the back of a train? I was using passenger services with the AEM-7 which has 7,000hp per Loco, but if I put a loco at the back of the rake i loose power. The combined power of a 18 carrage rake of 2 locos and 16 passenger carrages has 10,500 hp if one loco is at the back while it has 14,000hp if they are both at the front, why is this?

Kind Regards Chris Booth

That has to be a bug, since like you said, it should have double the power

It's just me or running sounds have some issues with the latest nightly versions?

I am a big fan of the work you guys have done for this set. Some of the big pluses to this set are the huge number of locomotives, and the great sounds. The only thing that would make this set better (I don't want to criticize because I love this set) would be to add in the positive aspects of the US set, specifically the wider variety of livery colors/decals, and the locomotive specific livery changes.

For now, thanks for all the work, and I'll continue playing with one of my favorite trains sets.

The problem is, it looks out of place to have only locos and cars with a certian livery so every loco needs to be redone to make a certain livery, theres usually 8 sprites, sometimes 16 for A and B unit locos, and 24 for ABA for the FT loco. Theres many locomotives so that equals A LOT of sprites to be done.
