@Apdaf Since this is what others want, if you continue with all this nonsence I shall reopen the 'Poll to take Apdaf out of the map game' thread.

Pottsanian citizens go Potty over radio story

A radio broadcast told Pottsanian citizens that Aliens had landed on earth and were abducted humans.
Everybody paniced and hid in their houses.

The truth is an author named Awsome Wells created the completely fictional story and broadcasted it thinking everyone would have a nice laugh.

He has been taken to court.

The RSC Primordial Explorer has returned from its trip to the jupiter orbit.
The astronauts are celebrated as national heroes in a big parade in the streets of Ciudad de Rojàn.
The spacecraft, though originally a revolutionnary design, now seems outdated in comparison with the designs of other nations.

The new design our engineers have been working on is well in progress. It will be a much larger ship, designed for the explicit purpose to leave the solar system and explore star systems beyond our own in the hope of finding another world for humanity to settle down.
There are still many things that need to be done for this to be possible:

-Propulsion - our scientists are working hard at increasing the acceleration and top speed of our NP-engine. The rough estimates predict that larger warheads, that could safely be detonated once the craft has crossed the heliopause and thereby left the solar system. The craft could potentially be accelerated to a third of the speed of light and could therefore reach the nearest star, proxima Centauri, in as little as 12 years.

-power generation - a question towards the scientists of the world : how far are we with nuclear fusion ? cause for a trip of this length, no other power source can be considered.

- life support - though the crew will most likely be in cryostasis for most of the trip, the conditions of the craft must enable the astronauts to survive in a wakened state for many months, possibly years, during the exploration of far away solar systems. We need to severely improve air and water purifying systems as well as waste management and the possibility to grow food on board.

As for the question of space armament, some thoughts have been given to a "light" space weapon by our RDI:
A so called "rail gun" would make use of the same principle as mag-lev technology, to accelerate a projectile towards its target at speeds of around Mach 20, possibly faster in a vaccum.

@D-CHGU: That is what a mass accelerator cannon is but a lot smaller please look at the second to last post on the last page.

@APDAF:

I should know better but I'm going to reply anyway... first : I thought as much, even if "mass accelerator" sounded more like a particle accelerator to me... secondly, even then... well our scienentists have developped a lighter version of our own... the laws of physics, including the effect of magnetic fields are not a state secret... and thridly... as far as I'm concerned, your country is still war-torn, since you haven't written anything about changes of government, rebuilding, economical strengthening, sciences funding, research directions... and so on... also you seem to have no presence in space, and no space programm (that imperial thingy of space was first mentioned on the last page, so it was just formed in my opinion...) so I don't see how you could develop such a thing.
Besides, we are looking for defence weapons against potentially existing and potentially hostile aliens, not for a WMD to blow up an alien planet we might want to trade with,...

The Imperial Space Colonial and Expeditional Force was fist mentioned around 70 pages ago.

And that was a just saying how much power it has.

Well I must have missed that... I wasn't playing back then... but since I started, and this whole space exploration got going, we haven't heard anything from you besides Alexi juggling with comets. Which brings me back to reminding you that your country still lies in ruins.

The USAf welcomes the new nation of Llamaland.

@Voyager One: Welcome to the UESPA.
How goes development on the Caterpillar Drive? We are willing to test it out on the UES Pamela when she's completed.

Permission is granted to develop space weapons, for the sole purpose of defence from any alien attacks. Basically, they'll make people feel better and safer.

The UES Endeavour has been completed! It is the first fusion-ion-drive powered spaceship, and it will soon be sent on a test run to Jupiter to confirm the speed of its engines.
The UES Pamela will also be completed soon. Space junk is becoming a worry, she'll help clear that up.

@D-CHGU: As a member nation of the UESPA, here, have a free fusion reactor. We are all for the first interstellar exploratory mission, but we believe that the nuclear pulse drive is never going to get to a sufficient speed. Wait till we test our Endeavour, we will learn a lot from our fusion-ion drive engines and see if they are sufficient for interstellar operations.
BTW, we have much more efficient energy-based weapons, plus plasma missiles modified for space use. (which can put a 10-metre hole in the hull of a spaceship)

News from Llamaland - giant rare earth elements deposits found, including materials essential in construction of spaceships! It is expected that cost of fusion-ion-drive construction may drop by 30%.

Thanks ! We shall make good use of it !

We will postpone our manned interstellar mission until your tests are over.
However, since we are decided to find out how far the energy output of our NP-engines can be stretched we shall built an unmanned interstellar probe, powered by three sets of engines :
- a regular ion-drive as allready used in the RSC Explorer- a "System-class" NP-engine to accelerate out of the solar system
- an upgraded NP-engine to accelerate even further once the Heliopause has been breached.
The whole thing will be aiming for Proxima Centauri (4 LY away) and will be powered by a fusion reactor.

To further improve the energy output of the NP-engine our lead scientist had this idea after siting in his bathtub and watching his old boiler explode and fly out of the window :
we shall use shaped nuclear charges instead of conventional ones, to direct most of the blast towards the pusher plate of the spacecraft and thereby increasing the impulse of the ship !

This probe, the RSC Proxima will be ready to leave lunar orbit in half a year.

USS Enterprise construction has gone ahead after funding off President Gonzalez gave funding. It is hoped that it will be the first Warp Speed Spacecraft. We are hoping to build it with the help of UESPA.
@Kogut: I think those rare earth elements are just in CSA. We ourselves found them in 2006 when searching for Fossil Fuels. We are however willing to let you mine them if we get a 35% share of all sales.

The UES Endeavour and the UES Pamela are now both fully operational. The Endeavour has been sent on a test mission to test the combination of fusion power and ion drive. The results were outstanding - the ship's immense speed propelled it to Jupiter and back in under three weeks!
The Endeavour will soon be prepared for missions to take a close look at the outer planets and dwarf planets including Neptune, Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. It will tour our local solar system, as it is not equipped for a long journey beyond the system.

The UES Pamela is being tested for her purposes as well - so far she has been excellent at hauling defunct spacecraft and obsolete satellites to the LunarHub for salvage of the materials.

@A321Pilot: Your current plans for the UES Enterprise appear to be too advanced for what is possible with current capable technology. However, the prospect of designing a drive which can travel at faster than the speed of light is very appealing indeed. Therefore you have access to the UESPA's shipbuilding facilities aboard the LunarHub station

BREAKING NEWS!!!
Men land on Mars! The NP-powered UES Pioneer has entered orbit of Mars after a trip of only four weeks, and two brave astronauts have landed on the surface using a landing pod! They are currently closely studying the surface and will return in five weeks after some more tests aboard the ship.

Okay, regarding the warp ship, do we even have an idea of how to propel a ship beyond the speed of light? We have the resources if we collaborate, but do we have the know-how?

Current status of the project:
1. Use fusion powerplant to generate lots of energy
2. ?????
3. Make ship go faster than light
4. Profit!

Also, what does the USS stand for? Surely it should be UES, for United Earth (Space)Ship?

Anyway,
Here are images of the three main UESPA spaceships:

Here is a proposed design for the UES Enterprise (which btw should be called UES, because every member nation of the UESPA is helping develop it, so it's everyone's ship)

Now, how about we test what we know of your drive system by attaching it to a testbed ship?

Concerning FTL-travel, research in our particle accelerator at our research facility has shown that it IS possible to propel single particles with a mass >0 faster than the speed of light (faster than photons, which are particles with a mass =0)
All we need to do is find out how to propel a spacecraft with living things on board (which is slightly larger than single particles) faster than the speed of light. Preferably the living things should still be living after the trip.

Together it shall be possible to break the Einstein-Barrier !
