There is a big difference. One of them says DSB on the side, the other does not.Lachris wrote:Edit1: What is the difference between Litra Y (the pig) and Litra ML??
There is a piece of history behind it. Until 1984, Helsingør-Hillerød used MO, but they were worn out and had really poor reliability in the end. DSB wanted MR/MRD to replace them, but the politicians didn't allow DSB to buy trains that would need to go to Fredericia every time they needed even a minor checkup, so they argued for years. In the end, the politicians ordered DSB to buy litra Y and make an agreement for repairs in Hillerød, but DSB would still not use those trains, so to make it a bit better, they got DSB-red livery and a different name.
Today HFHJ uses IC2, so there are some left over Y middle cars (can't remember the name of those) and they are actually used by DSB between Hillerød and Helsingør. Since they are not repainted, you can sometime see a train with differently coloured wagons.
I hope this explains the "difference"

also a note about turning a train the wrong way. It's actually something that can happen really easy if you are not careful. Say you got a train in Roskilde and you should go to Copenhagen, but gets divertet to kastrup and then go back to Copenhagen, then you turned your train around and with the very few operational turntables and the busy tracks around the areas where you can turn the trains, it can be a problem to turn them right again.
Hmm beliefed i draw the Litra Y not the litra ML

also let's make one thing clear: Litra Y is actually not the pig. The real pig is the 2 axle Triangel motorcar because when they started driving on LNJ (Nærumbanen) in 1927, people knew that all trains used a steam whistle, so they used a compressed air whistle. It didn't really work as good as they had hoped because it sounded like a screaming pig. Those trains were retired around 1950, but the name still lives. Now people just use that name for the "wrong" trains
People even call the RegioSprinter for "the pig"

Well, thats just stupid. Calling a late 90's Hitech train the pig..Bjarni wrote: People even call the RegioSprinter for "the pig"

Edit: What about the YM form the LNJ? Will this be a train or a tram?

Edit: Ok, a little confused here.
The litra ML(and middlewagon FL) is the train from the Lille Nord.
Then we have the Pig(whats the litra name here?) and then the YM, the single ML looking wagon.
Im i right?
Okei, serached around a bit and found a picture of the pig. It dont look like ML at all..
Here
Here
ML is the DSB train on Little Nord (AFAIK ownership will be transferred to Lokalbanen in 2007, but that's anohter story)Michael24 wrote: Edit: Ok, a little confused here.

Litra Y is the design if it's not a DSB train. Ym is the engine car, Ys is the steering car and (inset name here, that I have yet to remember

Different lines have different livery for their Y trains.
I hope this clears up the confusion. It's all just the same design, but they are painted differently and in case of DSB, they assigned a different name, but it's still the same design.
Yeah but...
YM = http://www.signalpost.dk/foto/LNJ-6.JPG
YM = ?? http://www.jernbanen.dk/lyntog.asp?typenr=10
I dont get it...
It cant have the same name, when the first one has steering in both end of the wagon, but the ML dont? Are you sure that the Litra ML, is'nt infact only the enginewagon, and not the real name for the hole train(with FL)?

hahaha, that one is incorrectly referred to as a pig (sometimes called "Sølvgrisen"). To read more about it, look here: http://www.veterantoget.dk/materiel/motor/lnjsm13.htmlMichael24 wrote:Okei, serached around a bit and found a picture of the pig. It dont look like ML at all..
Here
And here is the real pig: http://www.veterantoget.dk/materiel/motor/lnjm4.html
I think I posted both images/links earlier.
The misunderstanding is due to some people starting to call the railroad lines and hence all the trains on them for pigs. There is only one real pig (even though the official name is something different)
ok, it appears that we need a full explanation for this.Michael24 wrote:Yeah but...

You know what ML/FL is as you found the link.
Ym is a Litra Y with an engine (motor). You found a link with the line, that used them with cabs in both ends (again LNJ). It can also have just one cab and then it looks like ML (same engine, different paint).
When it comes to private lines, naming is consistent if you look at one line, but not if you look at two different lines. Ym is not the same for LNJ as it is for every other line as they got shorter trains.
it sounds like we have to desuion on going.
the Litra EG i free..

Thx
Think the next project would be
Litra Y: http://www.ooas.dk/ttdxd/trains/Y/NJBA_Ym1_Skagen1.jpg
If it is Litra Y
It's just make the Litra ML and change the colours
