3D engines [FAQ fork]

You should definitely consider OGRE - http://www.ogre3d.org - which is open source and widely used, and is cross-platform.
It has a much more recent, stable release than Crystal Space. It also looks more feature complete.

I was looking to Irrlicht and I found out that Mac Os isn't supported. I don't know if you want to run on Mac os, if yes you shouldn't use it.
OGRE and Crystal Space are looking very good, I can't say more about them, because I don't use them jet, I think I am going to try to get them working.
Or are there other people who know them both?

Because I want to use Irrlicht I have looked for it and that I bookmarked this:
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... =5561#5561
If somebody has experience with Ogre please don't hesitate to tell
Irrlicht:
+
small, works with gcc on windows
very open, you can can do mostly what you want with it.
-
SceneManger can't handle A LOT objects, culling isn't the best.
Feature less, but only one dev... It's in a very early stage...
Ogre:
-
No real support for gcc on windows
Looks complex
+
Has an octree scenemanger plugin, should handle all my objects

I use Blitz3d, injoy this program.. has to engine really, but it a fully working game tool using basic code and Dx7 (Dx9 Upgrade Soon)
The only down fall to this program is that its only for Win98,WinXP,Win2000.. The Developer hasn't gotten a OpenGL version yet and when release will support Linux, MacOS, and WinXX
This is my choice for game making tool.. I had been working on a Transport Tycoon of myself, but I hadn't got much support from others.. But Im still in the processe of Developing one.. and would be willing to help you on yours I know C++/Dx7 (Could use Dx9, but not needed for a game like this)
Anyways I hope all goes well please check out this link... for Blitz3D

this ia a big problem, an other problem is that it is a commercial engine. (as far as I looked on the website) But our aim is to make a game for both linux and windows.fbepyon wrote:The only down fall to this program is that its only for Win98,WinXP,Win2000..
