Breakdwon vehicles
Hello,
I'm totally new on this forum, and I am playing OpenTTD for the first time the last three days.
Do somebody know how you can disable breakdown vehicles?
I'm getting really crazy of all the vehicles who constantly breaking down.
It doesn't matter if there are brand new or a few years old.
Hopefully has somebody the answer for me, I couldn't found it in the Options Menu.
Thanx!!

Disabling breakdowns is cheating your way out of itOlbren wrote:I'm getting really crazy of all the vehicles who constantly breaking down.

To play with breakdowns switched on, it is important to pick an engine that is as reliable as possible. Also, make sure you have put enough depots around, so a train can be serviced as soon as needed.
I like the additional challenge of vehicles breaking down. It makes picking an engine just that bit more important, and gives a bit more variability in the track usage.
Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Even with low breakdowns the vehicles break down way too often for my liking. If a vehicle gets its regular service, it should break down only a couple of times in its entire lifetime. After all, that's why it gets regular service...

Re: Breakdwon vehicles
I'd bet if we took a poll, the majority of people would play with breakdowns disabled. Breakdowns just add frustration and detract from the fun factor of OTTD, IMO. (Vanilla breakdowns, anyway, the "advanced breakdowns" patch probably improves things.)

You've never worked in public transport, have you?FooBar wrote:If a vehicle gets its regular service, it should break down only a couple of times in its entire lifetime. After all, that's why it gets regular service...
In my experience, any given public transport bus 'breaks down' (ie requires unscheduled time in the garage and/or mechanical attention while out on the road) about once a week, and properly breaks down (ie is unable to return to depot under its own power and requires a tow truck) about twice a year.
Speaking for myself, I play with breakdowns on "reduced", it feels about right.
Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Actually I have, but not in the department where they keep track of breakdownsPikkaBird wrote:You've never worked in public transport, have you?
But I wasn't necessarily comparing to real life, just stating how I feel it should work ingame. Not that I'm able to change anything about it though...
Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Thanx for the answer. I've set it off now and it plays a lot better. (without any frustration )
Other question; Because I'm totally new on this forum and with the OpenTTD game.
Is there a main site where I can find all the extras, patches and grf files.
A view things where I am looking for:
- Dutch aircompanys like KLM and Martinair
- More industries
Like to hear from somebody.
P.S.: Sorry for my bad english..... I'm from the Netherlands.
Thanx!!

Grfs:
- ingame content download
- grfcrawler: http://grfcrawler.tt-forums.net/
- the graphics development subforum
Patches:
- the openttd development subforum
"Extra's" (such as scenarios, heightmaps, AIs, etc.)
- ingame content download
Dutch aircraft may be found in the World Airliners Set. More industries: FIRS, or ECS Vectors, or Pikka's Basic Industries are some suggestions. You should be able to find all of these on the online content from the game.
EDIT: I asked a moderator to move this topic to the problems section, as it has nothing to do with OpenTTD Development per se.

Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Thanks for this quick reply!
Other question;
I've found a screenshot of a very big customized airport.
But I can't find the downloads for this on the web.
Have somebody an idea where I can find it?

Re: Breakdwon vehicles
My guess is on a NewGRF like "fake airport tiles". It's not an airport, those are NewObject (or station) tiles which just look like airports

Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Note that it is usually better to link to the post containing the picture instead of just showing the picture, as it gives people context where you got the image from.
That is from a patch, which you can find in the same topic.
Note that "patch" here means "source-code patch", that is, you need to download the sources, and inject the patch, and compile the result to an executable program, before you can use it.
Some times, people do this, and post the binary in the topic to save you the trouble

Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Speaking of patches, yesterday I've written something on that subject that is hopefully understandable to regular players. It covers what patches are, introduces some of the terms that are often used here (like compiling), and what one needs to do to get a patch working. See: http://wiki.openttd.org/Patches
Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Nice Wiki page, thanks
Re: Breakdwon vehicles
Just being helpful: The first is Fake Airport station tiles NewGRF (which you can download and run within OpenTTD). The second is Huge Airports patch, which requires you to download code plus the OpenTTD source code and re-compile to run.
