Well , eGRVTS is good, but the "G" stands for "Generic".
And some people, including me, would also like trucks based on real-life prototypes. I think that with BANDIT we will have much more flexible, versatile and realistic trucks than have ever been created for (Open)TTD. THere is no perfect truck set yet; this will be it.

WellI hope your set will be in CC or at least have a CC refit because I don't always like real life liveries

Yeah, the cabs are always in CC, the truck bodies only on a few types.

Maybe it is the best idea to concentrate on american and aussie trucks, because they are the wicked, (i enjoy the look of the double trailer log truck in HEQS very much) i must admit, but if include some Iveco and Volvo trucks, they are pretty much (especially the second) sold world wide so you can't go wrong on those two.

It's likely that BANDIT won't be one grf, but several. When I eventually get around to starting it, the first thing I'm going to do is standardise graphics dimension so that all trucks and trailers can be used together in a standard way. The second thing will be to template code so that several grfs can be produced from one project.

In this way there could be a truck set for each major continent or climate or whatever.

I see that theres finally a BANDIT folder in the compile farm, though r23 had an error.

I hope this means that we're finally getting an early version of BANDIT

Andy, I've always been impressed by your work in the past, so I'm excited to see what comes out of this. All this talk of big trucks got me wondering what size of trucks are we allowed to run here in Alberta, Canada...

Regular (single trailer) semis can be 23m (75') long (total length), with a maximum 16.2m (53') trailer.
A-trains / B-trains / C-trains (semis with two trailers) can be 26m (85') long without a special permit.
ostlandr wrote:Hey, double 48 footers or triple 28 footers are more than enough to scare me! The Canadians allow double 53 footers.
Yup, it's true.
Rocky Mountain Doubles are a 53' trailer and a 28' trailer. In Alberta, they can be up to 31m (102') long.
Turnpike Doubles are double 53' trailers. In Alberta, they can be up to 38m (125') long.
Triple Trailers are three 28' trailers. In Alberta, they can be up to 38m (125') long.

These last three require a special permit, but that doesn't seem to be too hard to get. As well, they're limited to the more major roads in the province.
AndersI wrote:In Sweden they are testing a 30 meter long 'timber train', and discussing if it should be generally allowed. The normal limit is 24 meters here (more than EU).
Turns out we've been doing this in Alberta for a while. Logging trucks can be 30.5m (100 ft) long, with a rear overhang of logs of 9m (30 ft). That overhang can cause problems at intersections, swinging into the lanes of oncoming traffic, so they put up warning signs in logging country.

The really crazy stuff is the trucks they send on the high and wide load corridors. These highways are designed to allow vehicles up to 9m (30') wide and 9m tall to pass. That makes for some monster loads, mostly of industrial components headed to the Oil Sands in Fort McMurray (imagine shipping oil refineries by truck...). Any chance you want to add some of these megaloads to your collection Andy?

it strikes me that this would more likely be a case for HEQS, not for BANDIT

So I guess now with experience from HEQ's, making trucks with differnet trailers should be "easy" :)

I can't wait to have big north american trucks hauling all sorts of things through my cities and the country

It looks really good!

On your image, what do the numbers mean?

Also, if it makes a difference, the triples permitted here in Alberta, Canada are 3x28 foot trailers.

I'm excited to see what comes of it!

Presumably they'll be refit-able to everything except the passengers class.
