Looks like that 175 vehicle might be a potential write-off...
I was social distancing before it was cool

Last train journey I could be bothered to look up the headcode for: 04/02/2016, Mirfield to Batley, 2J34 1459 Huddersfield to Leeds, Northern Rail 144015

Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
wow
last time i saw a story like this a cement mixer had fallen off a bridge onto a train.
my question is, what type of crossing was it? 2 gates, 1 gate or none?, just wondering why the lorry was even there if a train was coming

Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
It'll be a new cab but otherwise all ok - the train is designed for a bit more safety than some others

Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
No it doesn't. It just suggests the crossing has barriers. I'm no expert, but with the barriers down it would be a bit of a squeeze to get a lorry and trailer through...Jacko wrote:so that would suggest the lorry was going around the gates
Although the warning lights were working, as they are flashing in the background of the video in the link Andel posted (when the policewoman is speaking).

That just proves the fact that Pembrokeshire drivers are much better than Carmarthenhire drivers!

Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that

Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
"Enough said"? I'm led to believe that, in such situations, it's fairly standard practice to take the driver into custody (assuming, of course, he is still alive). Doesn't mean he intentionally plonked his lorry on the tracks. Maybe he broke down? Maybe there's some other explanation? Don't be too quick to jump to conclusions.JamieLei wrote:Lorry driver been arrested on suspicion of endangering safety. . Enough said
Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
The highway code is pretty clear on phoning the signalman immediately using the crossing-side phone if a vehicle breaks down. There were barriers on the crossing so it's unlikely that he would have ploughed through them, in the event that the sunlight would have made the lights look off (as happened in Cumbria). The lights were clearly working too. I think I've covered most possibilities.orudge wrote:"Enough said"? Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
Perhaps, but the point I was making is just because somebody is arrested for something, doesn't mean they're guilty of any offence. There's quite possibly a good likelihood of it, but let's wait for it to be proven first, eh?
Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
True - I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. The fact he was arrested rather than simply questioned implies the police have a very strong reasoning and definitely a bite more than an inkling that he's responsible though.

Re: Crash in wales between a train and lorry
I have been told (by someone who works for Network Rail) that the 175002 has already been Written off by ATW.
