FUN BUS!

Post by JamieLei »

No seriously, a London Man was so serious about getting replacing buses along Oxford Street with these things that it resulted with a long painful exchange of letters and emails with TfL.

The design of that bus is so 1991

On a related note, I'm sure many of you have heard of the New Bus for London

Being in London, the Wrightbus "Borismaster" is as much fun as I can take.

Still, its entering service with one of the worst operators early next year.
Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that

Hmm, that reminds me of the Pedal Pub. Excuse the hideous web site. It's rather fun. Some photos here. Maybe they should introduce those in London! :D

Lol, I'm surprised they even humored him for that long. Any form of transport requiring full subsidy with no farebox revenue is unlikely to get off the ground (yes, I know about that German town etc etc.).

Well I suppose TfL as a public organisation have a duty to consider all suggestions, no matter how ridiculous they are!

IMO the best way to tackle congestion on Oxford Street would be to ban taxis from it. If you want a taxi, walk to the nearest crossroads!

I'd pedestrianise it altogether and route the westbound buses through Great Marlborough and Brook Streets, and eastbound along Wigmore street. Would also solve a lot of the pickpocketing problems as crowds wouldn't be squeezed together on the unfeasibly narrow pavements any longer. After all, most Briish cities have pedestrianised their main shopping street, why not London?

On the other hand, London is a city that I believe is probably more under the blackmail of the rich by anywhere else. If the rich can't get a taxi to the front door of Selfridges, they aren't going to shop there.

Fair point, but they could leave road access open down Orchard Street and up Duke Street so one can still get taxi/limo access there darling, assuming one can bear to walk through the foodhall. Of course, one usually makes a personal appointment to shop after hours, so there usually aren't too many taxis in Oxford Street to get in the way.
