Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
*Update: Now available for 10.4 as well; see the next post down*
For those wanting to use OpenTTD natively on Mac OS X, there is a Universal Binary build downloadable here:
http://openttd.eisbox.net/files/openttd ... osx-ub.zip
This version is quite current and has been built with the latest Mac OS X native developer's tools. It should run on Intel and PPC macs running 10.5 or later. The majority of the bugs should not affect gameplay, but that being said, use at your own risk. The usual caveats about OpenTTD being unsupported on Mac OS X apply.
If you get a crash when switching between windowed and full-screen mode, please post details of your experience at the bug tracker here: http://bugs.openttd.org/task/3651

Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
Evidently some folks running OS X 10.4 wanted to play OpenTTD as well, so I've backed down further and built against the 10.4u SDK. This build should now work on most macs running 10.4 to 10.6. I've also applied the patch to fix the OS mouse issue to this build, so that should no longer be a problem. There are now only 3 known bugs with this build. If you experience any of them, please post about them here.
Here's a direct download link:

Bug notes:
* If you crash when switching between full-screen mode, PLEASE add to the bug report. We need more information on this one in order to fix it.
See http://bugs.openttd.org/task/3651
* Do not use the OpenMSX MIDI tracks, as Little Blue Box Car is corrupt and will crash your game.
See http://bugs.openttd.org/task/3648
* You will not be able to enter many international characters in the text boxes.
See http://bugs.openttd.org/task/2484
Happy OpenTTD-ing.

For OSX you should rather provide DMG instead of zips

Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
OS X has no trouble with zips since 10.2 or earlier, even when resource forks are involved. Making a DMG would be additional effort not well spent when I can be fixing bugs.planetmaker wrote:For OSX you should rather provide DMG instead of zips
I have already solved the mouse problem and brought the music crash to as best a conclusion as currently possible.
Right now what I need is some people who can duplicate the full-screen crash.
All that said, if you want a DMG for some kind of official release, I can make one up easily enough.

Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
What's the trouble calling make bundle_dmg vs. make bundle_zip? It's supported natively by the build system.
Gladly I'll checkout the mouse fix soonish

Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
hi
first post and just wanted to say that I have recently bought a Dell Mini 10v and installed Snow Leopard on it, so this is ideal for me
Been playing so far with openGFX and I wasn't bothered about sounds or music as I play it on my lap whilst watching tv.

Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
I just created an account to say my thanks for this build! It really saves people lots of trouble, so I hope you'll keep it up with coming versions. So far I havn't experienced any errors, but I'll be sure to post them where appropriate if encountered.
Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
I'll second that thanks. It's a shame the official builds disappeared. I used to do roll-my-own builds, but now I only play occasionally enough that it's not worth having the various gigabytes of dev tools laying around on my laptop drive. Thanks!!
Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
Just re-read my post above and realised I forgot to say thanks so .. Thanks

Well... lets give it a try then..

Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
Thanks again for providing this build, I've been having fun playing TTD again.
Any chance you could make one with the Cargo Distribution patch? I used to play with that, and it makes playing much more interesting, especially with passengers. Thanks!

Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
I just wanted to add a bit of insight to this. It isn't a matter of Mac OS X not supporting zip which, obviously, it does. It's just to fall in line with general Mac parlance - applications are typically distributed on DMG disk images. This forces the user to actually install the application (generally into the Applications folder) rather than just have it sit on the desktop, which is the default action for uncompressing a zip file. Also, with DMG images you can doll them up with extra graphics, instructions, etc...KingRobot wrote:OS X has no trouble with zips since 10.2 or earlier, even when resource forks are involved. I'm so thinking of ATTEMPTING to make an iPad port of this. I've written a few iPhone apps, but nothing complicated. Anyone want to help me?

I think someone already did this: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/openttd- ... 47124?mt=8Hai wrote:I'm so thinking of ATTEMPTING to make an iPad port of this. I've written a few iPhone apps, but nothing complicated. Anyone want to help me?
Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
Incidentally, is there a FAQ on why there aren't any more nightly builds or stable downloads offered on the main openttd page?
Re: Mac OS X build of OpenTTD 1.0.1
Don't think there's a FAQ, but you can take a look here.
