OpenTTD 1.0.0-RC1

Post by Rubidium »

Today we have released the release candidate for 1.0.0. This means that we're not going to add any (big) features anymore and focus only on fixing bugs.

This release can, as always, be found at: http://www.openttd.org/download-testing/1.0.0-RC1

We would also make you aware of the following topics related to the 1.0.0 release:
  • The title game for 1.0 series 'contest', currently people are voting for their favourites
  • The music replacement project
  • We are looking for new/extra translators for the following languages, the number of missing strings and change since 1.0.0-beta4 as of writing is between parentheses:
    • Basque (2497) (-130)
    • Esperanto (516) (+4)
    • Frisian (1747) (+8)
    • Galician (105) (-40)
    • Icelandic (127) (+8)
    • Ido (3102) (+8)
    • Japanese (101) (-71)
    • Macedonian (2675) (+8)
    • Malay (279) (+8)
    • Persian (1908) (+8)
    • Thai (2396) (+8)
    • Urdu (3031) (+8)
    • Welsh (123) (+8)
The FAQ of WT3 tells you how to become a translator. The languages not in this either have less than 100 missing strings, or are totally untranslated. See the translation status for more information about the current status of the translations. Generally speaking four of the previously listed languages have translated (some) strings (Luxembourgish now has only 2 missing strings, so is not listed). As we are in release candidate mode the amount of time that is still available for translations is becoming short.
  • The deprecation of the Mac OS X port, some user patches were applied but we still do not have an active maintainer of the port and there are still a number of open bug reports.
Finally we would like to ask whether you can help improve the documentation in the wiki so our new players have a good and up-to-date manual to help them exploring OpenTTD.

Happy OpenTTDing!

Today is a great day, and the first of many more I guess.

Congrats and thanks to all the developers who continue to make this game better and better.

Congratulations to all involved in getting OpenTTD to this amazing point.

Interesting bit of timeliness given the 'usual' release date for new stable versions.

No, but have you read known bugs. According to some googling your OS is using PulseAudio, which is known to misbehave badly in certain situations.

how exactly you are missing a negative/positive number of strings?! what in some languages someone decided to add few choice words of his own :)

there is many images of screens that should be updated and many manual pages that should be reviewed

Am I right in thinking that the negatives, positives are changes from last beta? If so, I assume that 4 strings were added to the game.

Actually 8 were added, but yes they are changes since 1.0.0-beta4.

OpenTTD has the capability to use any music replacement set. But as any base set, it won't be directly part of the distribution (though the win installer might be able to install sound and graphics upon request).

I meant 8, of course. As a matter of interest, what are the strings? I can't think of any new things that would require more strings...

STR_CONFIG_SETTING_SMALLMAP_LAND_COLOUR
STR_CONFIG_SETTING_SMALLMAP_LAND_COLOUR_GREEN
STR_CONFIG_SETTING_SMALLMAP_LAND_COLOUR_DARK_GREEN
STR_CONFIG_SETTING_SMALLMAP_LAND_COLOUR_VIOLET
STR_ERROR_NO_AI
STR_ERROR_NO_AI_SUB
STR_ERROR_TOWN_CAN_T_DELETE
STR_ERROR_CAN_ONLY_BE_BUILT_IN_LOW_AREAS

Or in other words, better error messages instead of generic ones/crashes and different colours for the smallmap.

Maybe but i know that the Bug is newer, its not the first time that i play OpenTTD with Linux (and Pulseaudio).

The weired thing is that the other one using WinXP have the same Problem (and Win doesnt use Pulseaudio :P).

Removing Pulseaudio isnt realy a solution.

Anyway - thx for your Answer.

The music replacement is too incomplete for version 1.0 to wait for it.
