Evening ticket restrictions are only valid within the Network West Midlands zones I believe. And only with tickets with origin as Zone 1 (New Street, Snow Hill, Moor Street, Five Ways, Jewellery Quarter)

Connections are fine, as with anything going beyond the zones or starting in Zone 2+

Stourbridge is in NWM Zone 3 - the last station in it on the Snow Hill... But if it's only for tickets with an origin in zone 1 who cares.

Robbing gits.

They have GOT to be kidding me. There's now a SUPER OFF PEAK DAY RETURN in for University to Sutton Coldfield. *facepalm*...

Edit: And Stourbridge is in Zone 5. I was wondering how Rowley and Stourbridge could be in the same zone..

In fact it's for any journey from Birmingham unless it continues (not started from) beyond the wider West Midlands (the Day Ranger boundary).

It says "if you take a train between 16:35 and 18:00 from Birmingham New Street, etc..." which suggests if I did tomorrow I'd get bummed.

I'd love to see them enforce it though, as I could easily argue that my ticket is off-peak by default as you can't buy a peak ticket after 0930 for travel that day (or even if I could, I wouldn't get sold one unless I specifically asked).

EDIT: 3... 5... Whatever, all the same to me. I thought there were only 3 so went for the outermost zone (I thought) that existed.

Journey planner trumps all. Since it says that Off-Peak tickets from Preston _can_ be used on trains leaving New Street in the evening peak, that wins the argument.

Worleys law:

"As Worley's involvement in a TT-forum thread discussion increases, the probability of that discussion being about the Stourbridge Bridge Branch line approaches 1".

Air

Delayed for 12 hours by those wonderful people at Ryanair and Stansted due to heavy snow, Ryanair abandoned their sales desk and left almost a 1000 people to start a riot at 5am in the morning.

Rail

Stuck on a train near Berwick for 2 and a half hours on the way to Glasgow Central due to a lightning strike frying the fuses of 20 miles worth of east coast main line signals.

Road:
5 hours when our coach skidded in the snow (on an ungritted class A road) and ploughed into a rock abutment in the middle of Rural Wales. No major injuries, but it had an effect on me when traveling along the same stretch of road in a bus a few weeks later (in clear weather)

I was an aircrew member (loadmaster) on a US Air Force Lockheed C-141B that was grounded for six days at Clark Air Base in the Philippines in May 1986 while awaiting parts from stateside. I will exercise discretion and spare the details, but being a relatively well-behaved type, I think I was the only enlisted guy who did not come down with some type of communicable disease during our extended R&R... At least we didn't break down in Diego Garcia, which would have been our next stop. :|

121 minutes going from Dresden to Vienna. The train stopped in the Czech Republic, lots of guys were talking Czech, only one younger woman of the train staff was talking English to everybody. Needed to get a bus from that station to another one and then continued our journey. I was really pissed, but since it was more than 2 hours, I got half of my money back (which was only 14,50, but that's better than nothing).

In the UK if your train is more than 30 minutes late you are entitled to a 50% refund, if 60 minutes late you get 100%. When things go tits up on NXEA they do tend to bust a gut to get you back within the hour. The number of times I've been 55-59 minutes late is somewhat irritating!

Actually I would have preferred to get nothing and get at least one hour of my life back. It was really chaotic.
And yep, the last part to Vienna was a hell of a ride. They obviously tried to make it "in time" (= less than 2 hours late), but they didn't, because the track inside of Vienna is full of city trains that stop quite often.

Not on ALL services. Only with selected TOCs. Central never ran this service; London Midland do.

Aye, I believe you can also claim a refund if your first class accommodation isn't used, as was the case with Wrexham and Shropshire a few weeks ago when a 168 deputised for a 67 set.

Which is rare because it must be one of the first times a Turbostar-derivative has travelled between Shrewsbury and Wrexham. I didn't think they were cleared.

They are cleared because they are of the same manufacturer of the 175's. And yes, it was the first unit to have done the full run, there was a unit a while ago that ventured up to Shrewsbury...

Mate, just cos a company manufactured two trains doesn't men they're both cleared.

The 170 and 175 are fundamentally different, let alone visually different. The 170 has big steps for a kick off.

175s, not 175's.

Secondly, wha't the hell ar'e you on about Welshdr'agon? 170's were built by Bombard'ier, where'as 17'5s were bui'lt by Alstom. By you'r logic, Pendolino's would also be permitt'ed up to W'rexham.
