I find a glitch or something...
Grey lines are under the Trader. What are these lines there?

They are anti-aliasing so the ship sits on the water better ;) Most of the ships have some of it, but maybe I added too much of it to the Trader. Normally it's just bow and stern as in this coaster. I might amend the Trader in a future release.

Yep, I've seen those too. I got unlucky on a palette conversion :shock: I'll fix those.

Meanwhile, here's a Small Vehicle Ferry I'm working on. Something like 240 passenger capacity...

I don't know why I like that ship, it's just a small boat :)
It's just need the bow and stern waves and it will be perfect.

About that new car ferry:
Cars will appear on the deck when it's loaded?
If it can be refitted to any cargo, I have an idea how to show the cargo. Maybe trucks can be placed on it, and the truck's load show the ship's load. :roll:

Your suggestion makes perfect sense, colossal. Then again, it's a passenger ferry for cars. Therefore, it will probably only feature vehicles such as cars and buses?? Your idea for it to transport trucks with cargo is brilliant, however :)

Thanks. I aggree with You, if the load is passengers, buses and cars can be parked on the ship.

I'm not doing *any* cargo sprites until I've finished all the ships. I think players would prefer more ships to better eye candy, and cargo graphics also means more code to write ;)

But I will add the trucks sometime (using eGRVTS, which is GPL).

I'm about to release the Small Vehicle Ferry in the FISH release thread (EDIT: done).

I have a suggestion, something probably never done in TTD before:

How about a car ferry? Not automobile car, but railroad car.

Places like New York and San Francisco, had car ferries to get freight cars from one side of the water to the other.

This could be a refittable ship to any cargo, with (for now) default TTD cars for loaded.

Would be very, very interesting for where trains transfer cargo to ships, especially in conjunction with the classification yards offered in the Industrial Station set.

That would not work because you would be adding another cargo, and this is only a vehicle GRF.

I don't really see why not - the trains would not really run on the ship.

Let's say the car ferry is refitted to grain. Well, when full the ship shows TTD grain hoppers on board. Fit it to goods, and TTD boxcars are on board. Again, the ships carry cargo, but the graphics are different depending what cargo is carried.

Since these car ferries are basically a tugboat with a flat barge with rails, it would actually be probably easy to draw. I might give it a shot, even.

That is the idea, it gives the impression of a set of cars being ferried across a body of water.

Problem though, is train set implementation. Wonder if it is possible, for the FISH set to 'read' a train set, and copy the correct cargo (as a railcar) onto the deck of the ferry. Say I have NARS loaded for a trainset and I want to ferry goods. Would it be possible for FISH to find the sprites for boxcars or flatcars (random goods carrying cars, maybe) and use them?

I got a feeling though, that I am thinking pie in the sky.

Probably yes; maybe not soon:) Also...hydrofoils, which will need some foxy speed-detecting code and rather a lot sprites due to the cool way in which hydrofoils work.

I am not going to do that though :) There are already about 8 sets of sprites needed per ship, adding cargo support would mean about 64 sprites per ship, doing trainset support would mean perhaps 320 sprites per ship.

Perhaps you could create a template NFO, which train set authors could use to produce a 'companion GRF' with suitably loaded ferries? 'Just' adding sprites. I'm still not sure it's worth the work, but it might at least be manageable that way.
