More frustrating than seeing another thread go OT for the same old reason?

As is
Existing members should be patient and tolerant of new members. If a user asks a common question, point them gently to the FAQ or the appropriate topic - don't be abusive towards them.
, but that one seems to be let slide often.
As I said before, the only person I see people being abusive to here is DaleStan. And yes, the forum rules don't get rigorously enforced, nor would we want them to be. However if more of the rules about searching and typing properly were enforced, I'm sure there would be fewer unfriendly posts made towards people who break those rules.

One constructive reply taking all of about 30 seconds (either from Dalestan, or someone else if, as Zutty suggested, people could just ignore the thread) would make it a 'much better place' than trying to pull constructive information out of this sort of garbage.
Typing properly takes less than 30 seconds, and doing a search takes no one's time but your own. Instead, people feel that the few seconds they save by typing like an idiot is worth more than the time of everyone else who has to decipher it. Or they feel that the time they saved by not searching is more important than the time of everyone else who has to answer the post or actually do the search that the person with the question should have done. And by the time you work out that the poster doesn't think too highly of everyone else's time, you have already wasted time reading it, ignoring it doesn't save much time.

And you wonder why people say "I tried doing a search but couldn't find anything...(useful)"
I wish more people would say that. Most of the complaints are against people who don't even bother to search, when an answer can be found in a sticky or on the first page of search results using the obvious search term.
