New default background(opntitle.dat) for OpenTTD 0.7.0stable

Is there a chance to have a new background in 0.7.0?
I know everybody can make a new one himself... but in the default-opntitle there aren't the new transport routes like tramways and electrified railways...
In my opinion the background should present OpenTTD a bit.
And this background is a bit old But i think there shouldnt be one with newgrf.

Timmaexx, your proposal has some charm.

It is helped far more, though if YOU then also come up with a suitable savegame Small, beautiful and w/o newGRF.

IIRC littlemickey (sp?) has held a competition for those.. Maybe look at that thread? Or make a new competition (as quite much new features have been added)

Be advised, tho, that trams are included in NewGRFs only... So that'd mean that that tram GRF should be included in the OTTD-Download, or trams can't show up on the map...

Well i heard sometimes OpenTTD breaksdown if there are NewGRF in opntitle.dat you don't have.

There's nothing wrong with that, if new content is added to it. Not a silly bump without. And concerning versions it is not THAT old. It's way into the 0.6.x versions.

The present title screen shows normal trains, monorail and maglev. Ships, planes, helicopters and road vehicles. As well as a new airport (compared with TTD).

So any newer title screen should have everything above and newer features like PBS, Aquaducts and anything else that is included with OTTD 7 as standard.I think this should be the absolute minimum requirement for a new title to even be considered.

OK, then we should organise a contest, people can post thaire own created title screen the one with most votes get in trunk.

First, i think that should be arranged with the Dev's!

And i believe a contest could be good!

In my opinion you can cheat A LOT!

The main reason is to have a ood backround

And map should be 128² or less... and just generictramset!

I don`t think the devs would be very happy about this contest idea.

It was thought of before to have a new opntitle.dat, but nothing really good came from it.

The rules are simple:
- only use GRF's that are either present in an openttd distribution or are base graphic. No NewGRF's
- title screen has to look good up until 1280x1024
- show off as many features as you can
- keep in mind that the title screen is in the middle of the window
- no newgrfs, did I mention that already?

The map does *not* have to be playable obviously, nothing outside of the viewing area has to make any sense (just look at the current opntitle.dat) just show a lot of activity.

I agree focus should be on until 1280x1024, but it should look good in up to 2568*1920 to support newest 30" displays.

If the screen is centered on the center of the map, how big would the map have to be so that you see no black edges on a 30" display?

No. And the effort to make it possible is not worth the gain IMO.
