New 4-way junction invented

Post by vinaximus »

Hi all,
I came with this new 4-way junction. I am inspired by 'Ultimate 3-way junction' in Wiki Junctions

Advantages:
Tracks divert before merge.
Easy to build
Not much turning means faster

Disadvantages:
Takes up a large space

You have four short 45° turns in there - how much do you expect the top speed to be in there?
It's only 88km/h for railway... :!:

And what do you think about this one? :)

Advantages:
Just 2 turns for direction change with enough space between them.
Branch before merge
Easy to build

Disadvantages:
Branches have different length?
Takes up large amount of space

That's the basic design I almost always use, but with tunnels instead of bridges.

This one is really nice, deepblue2k8. That only "problem" is its size in some instances.

A game or two ago (on the internet servers) I tried to make a really compact one. For the basis I took the old most basic cloverleaf design and inverted it so it would be jam-proof (splits before joins).
Here's what I came up with:

EDIT: It doesn't matter which side you place signals on - trains will always split before they join.

The long bridges are very bad since we can't have signals on bridges :P
PS: And I stopped the propaganda to support Dave Worley since he got a nice new red hat now.[/color]
I know I have a BBCode error in my signature but I really cba to fix it.

Hey - whatever floats your boat. Just make it bigger then with shorter bridges and longer turns.

try makeing something like that, with LL RR, and not more then 4 tiles unsignaled (i.e. a 2 tile bridge or tunnel + heads/entrances) :):)

Well - I have just the thing. :D

I have found this crossing in an old game that frfourg ([fr4g]) and I used. I have tidied up so it doesn't have the slow turns anymore and that it can be put together by combining 4 same quarters of it.
I'll post the copy-paste saved template here and you can tell me if you'd rather it I posted the whole thing. ;-)

Here is a piece of art that I built some time ago. It looks pretty complicated and has some sharp turns in it. So it won't be that good :-)

of course, pros: very compact and "branch before merge"; cons: slow as hell

I love star junctions :) Btw, make it just two tiles on eax axis larger and the sharp turns should be gone.

probably yes, looking at the link, it was just something I created at the moment. don't think it's new , now that i think about it I recall seeing something similar on the forum sometime ago...

Hi there, I was investigating where to post a screen of my revised spaghetti junction
Separating the flux has some good effect on the junction, but it still does have slow turns, but no more U-turn on lanes.
Also, the down-pass has a lot of gap in signalling, so it has to be on a "secondary" lane.
What pays back is the compactness.

If you like it, I can explain how to easily and fast build it
