No vehicles when creating a new scenario

Post by edz11 »

I'm new to OPEN TTD having resisted it for quite a while. But, I've given in...

I can play the few scenarios and there aren't any problems with the game that way - but when I create my own auto scenario I can build roads but have no vehicles to run on them. There is nothing showing under "available vehicles" at all. No planes, trains, etc Computer can't find them either! What did I miss when I installed it? I've looked under the patch config options but there isn't a "have vehicles" option.

Sorry if this has been asked but I can't find the answer!

1900 - I've assumed that it would start along the same lines as the original TTD...

You should try staring in 1950, or loading a grf set with vehicles in 1900. Starting as early as 1920 or 1930 might be possible with the default vehicles, but not before.

Original didn't start in 1900.
I suggest you get a couple of new grfs (LV4, DB Set, Aviator's Set, New Ships and a Tram set) and set the date at least 1936.
Newer sets, like the Canadian Set, go earlier than this and there is a lot of WIP for even earlier dates.

Thank you for the reply. I've set the year to 1941 and gey presto!, I have vehicles!

Which makes me wonder why the option of 1900 is on there in the first place.... then I wouldn't have wasted your time.

Thanks again. :)

I generally start at 1920 with UKRS, av8, and others. all is fine, so you could either get some GRFs or use a later date.

1930 seems fine for me for default vehicles in temperate climate.

Because the possibility is there.
And soon (hopefully), sets designed with vehicles of earlier then 1920 intro years will arrive.
If you are not ready to work a bit for your ideas, it means they don't count much for you.
OpenTTD and Realism? Well... Here are a few thoughs on the matter.

is it possible to add a check for the existence of any vehicle on start of the game and show a popup?
"Warning: No <trains, rvs, planes ships> available now"
or better "Warning: no trains until 18xx, no planes until 19xx"?
