Looks like Yet Another Bendy Dildo™.
A nice-looking one, though.
Kinda like the hot love child of an original Shinkansen train and a Class 89.

Re: Javelin Train
It's a bullet train capable of 186mph* with a third rail pickup. I still find that amusing.
*I read it in Rail magazine, so it must be true

Re: Javelin Train
Those doors are ugly, why are they "sinked" in the body?

Re: Javelin Train
They supposedly fail less because the mechanism to open them isn't as complex. It's also the way that the Bullet trains are built so I spose it was based upon them.
Re: Javelin Train
The train is built by Hitachi in Japan rather than one of the usual European companies: Bombardier, Alstom or Siemens. As far as I can see all of Hitachi's trains have doors like that, including the Shinkansen trains.

Being Yet Another Bendy Dildo™ doesn't have anythign to do with tilting, it has to do with the shape!andel wrote:Not a Bendy Dildo - this is a different train that doesn't tilt!lws1984 wrote:Looks like Yet Another Bendy Dildo™.

Sunk doors are for faster opening, closing due to the plug mech not getting caught with people.Parkey wrote:The train is built by Hitachi in Japan rather than one of the usual European companies: Bombardier, Alstom or Siemens. Re: Javelin Train
Oooh! There's a video on the BBC website.
Confusious say "Man with one altimeter always know height. Man with two altimeters never certain."
Re: Javelin Train
That video claims that SWT and Southern trains run at 90mph, last time I looked they run at 75mph and 100mph. The ironic thing is that it doesn't even mention SETs current services that these things are going to run as an alternative. SWT and Southern are fairly irrelevant.
Re: Javelin Train
But this is the press, Gav! Anyway, SWT Class 158/159s run at 90MPH.

Re: Javelin Train
The report is a local one for BBC South Today in Southampton, so they're probably trying to put it in context for their audience.

Re: Javelin Train
Interestingly Hitachi are also shortlisted as a bidder in the Intercity Express Program™ to replace the HST*.

Re: Javelin Train
The Class 91 will almost certainly be replaced as soon as a suitable 'leccy-powered replacement is found.

Re: Javelin Train
The 91 won't see replacement for a short while yet, but IEP is still 8-10 years off completion...

Re: Javelin Train
Surely the 91 has about 15 years left, easily! Probably be on operator four or five by then (BR, GNER, NatEx,?).
