And neither is running a poll like this - always leads to a flame war - wars lead to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, suffering leads to Swindon...

I.E 7 or higher is the one i use.. works fine and simple for me, just the way i like it and the tabs on it makes things much easier and tidy.. instead of having a lot of windows crampt at the windows bar at the bottem.

The question is about web browser I'm using now - which is FF. However, I like links. It's sexy, fast, doesn't crash, and I can access it from anywhere :)

Well, last month, the top 5 browsers ranked as follows:

MSIE - 45% (4.3 million hits)
Firefox - 42% (3.8 million hits)
Opera - 7.9% (764,000 hits)
Mozilla - 3.3% (321,000 hits)
Safari - 1.2% (120,000 hits)
(others = 0.6%)

In more depth (percentages of overall total):

MSIE 7 - 22.2%
MSIE 6 - 22.3%
MSIE 5.5 - 0.2%
(others <= 0.3%)

Firefox 2.0.0.5 - 12.3%
Firefox 2.0.0.4 - 23.5%
Firefox 1.5.0.12 - 1.1%

Interesting, we had one hit from the Lotus Notes web client, and a few hundred from Firebird and Phoenix (old versions of Firefox). A smattering of hits from MSIE 2 and 3, too. 7746 hits from Netscape 4.0, 12,600 from Netscape 5.0. It all makes for interesting reading.

Interesting, Opera seems to be more popular than I thought. (I thought it's below 5 percent.)

Opera is the best browser for me. It just gives me what I need (and my needs are geeky indeed, like deciding which cookies to accept on a per-cookie basis) without having to manage a bunch of extensions.

I dislike a few "new" features in the newer Opera (v7 onwards), and especially hated the acceptance of some of the (mozilla/firefox)-isms (in particular "tabs" rather than "new page", "tabbed browsing" instead of "MDI", changing default keybindings to that of mozilla/firefox). Opera6 was really the best browser for me, and I missed the old (pre-2002) Opera forum.

Back on topic: My privoxy configuration file contains the line

Code: Select all

+hide-user-agent {Opera/9.22 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0}
and every browser is set to proxy through privoxy (including links!). Says it all really.

+1, not mentioning it works like a charm or fast as a lightning (and I am using portable version)

@kezza: you can switch off what you do not want - enter address: opera:config
what are you looking at? it's a signature!

At the moment I'am using SeaMonkey, because with FireFox I can't access a certain forum (not this one :P).
