I think this would be critical to the economy and balancing thread.
Take wood, for example. When you pick up wood from the forest and deliver it to the sawmill, you get paid for delivering it- but the forest needs to get paid also (in terms of positive feedback of some sort.)
An industry that can't get raw materials or move its products to market should be in deep doo-doo.
This ties into some ideas I had for industry and town growth. A sawmill might start as a tiny one-tile business with a very small demand and output. This industry might support five houses and one small commercial building (a small village.) Given ample wood supply and a market for it's products (goods) it should grow, and the town along with it.
Interrupt the supply or market, and the business will suffer. In time, it may shrink in size, and it's "mill town" along with it. If for example the AI competitor stole all the wood from 'your' forests to feed its sawmill, then your sawmill- and it's town, with all the related passenger and goods traffic- might well disappear, leaving you with a station that is no more than a "whistle stop."

No, newindustries will not allow anything like that. It just replaces some industries with new ones, it does not redefine the whole system. You really need to bring some major changes for that.ThePenguin wrote:That would be pretty cool to have the trains going into factories and industries. Perhaps with newindustries we could do it?
If you are not ready to work a bit for your ideas, it means they don't count much for you.
