Please help

Post by the_general »

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to this forum but used to play TRansport Tycoon Original on my old 46 years and years ago and absolutely loved it!

I would dearly love to get the game to work on my Windowx Xp computer I'm using now but don't have much idea how! I could really use some help :)

I have downloaded both the TTD patch that I hear is required for the game to work on XP computers, and I have also downloaded the windows version of the game from Owen's Transport Tycoon website.

My problem is, what to do I do next? I have extracted both folders, and opened up setup.exe in the game folder, only for me to be told that it can't read from the source file or something......

Any help would be great. I'm a dummy so a fool proof step by step guide would be fantastic!

Thanks for your help guys :)

I've managed to actually install the game now, but everytime I run it, I get 'Error in Registry' message - any help please?

Make sure you are using a recent version of TTDPatch (2.5 b9, or a nightly), that "win2k on" in your ttdpatch.cfg, and that you are running ttdpatch.exe to start the game.

No sound, or no music?

If it's the latter, you may be able to get it working by running TTconfig.EXE and changing the settings there. Most people just listen to their own music from some external program though. I find using the in-game midi music causes pauses when changing tracks. :)

ah!
look around, there are some dll's that remove the pauseand/or allow more 'advanced' sound formats

OK, I'm back to square one.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me!

Yesterday when I installed the game, and used the patch, I saved it to C:\, which on my computer is in fact a s*** old zip drive, rather than my hard drive. I opened this up today, and clicked on the icon to play the game, but it says 'Unable to access Transport Tycoon Deluxe CD!'. I really want to get this game to work....... I thought, perhaps uninstalling all that I'd done so far (after all, I barely played a year in the game yesterday), and start again but this time trying to install everything onto my hard drive (F:\). However whenever I attempt to install the game to another game directory than the one offered as default ('C:\MPS\TTWin95'), I get the following error message.....

'Cannot copy file: Cannot read from source file or disk'

WHAT DO I DO? THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING...... ANY HELP YOU COULD GIVE ME WOULD BE GREAT!

Thanks in advance...........

Ok...
The rules of play:

-- Don't try and INSTALL into the SAME directory!
-- Make SURE the directory is NOT read-only.

Most important:
-- MAKE SURE you run TTDPATCH.EXE when you want to run the game! (Not the ICONS that TTD installed!!)
