I also prefer the track-like version (as on connect2.png). It's far simpler, more TT-like, perfect in width... and there could be both track and road pretty close to each other on the same tile.

Just browsing around when I found this topic. So why has the discussion ended?! The idea/thread seems to have simply died. A bit sad...

I was thinking about this thread when I was re-checking the 0.4.0 roadmap. So is anyone actively WORKING on it? like coding?

Anyone coding on this should please contact some of the developers in the chat (irc.freenode.net/#openttd) as 0.3.5 will see a full map rewrite and most stuff coded for versions before that will need a rewrite themselves.

Seriously, it might be better to look at this AFTER a map rewrite (whenever what will happen)

Yeah, Shrekko is dragging up a large number of old threads at the moment (As other have stated: with relatively useless responses. :? ) :?

Then read the threads, learn how they failed or died, and then leave them. Don't resurrect the thread.

Nothing wrong with it, but many people like the ideas - its just silly getting them resurrected unless there is anything useful to add to it. If you get me?

Or resurrect the thread with something productive. Like "here's a patch that implements this feature. Please test."
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

May be it's just me (right, don't answer  ) but I don't see the problem.

If it is possible to make new rail-types why not remove the road system and make it a rail-type (thus all functions of rail-tracks and artculated vehicles).
The only thing I see as a small problem is the way roads may cross railtacks.

Just an idea/hint

Resurrecting it without anything interesting however would bring it to the attention of coders who've joined since it died, never noticed it before and decide to do it. So why not resurrect the thread?

Maybe we should have a board rule... if you resurrect a thread more than 1 year old, you have defacto volunteered to do the work. :)
