Old grf file not working on new builds of OTTD

Post by iNVERTED »

Well, I haven't been playing OTTD for a while, so I decided to download and compile the latest nightly (revision 8884), which doesn't like my grf file. Nor does RC5. This particular file works on revision 5929, which is the latest version I have from before. A quick look round the forums hasn't given me any answers...

It has a GRFID of FFFFFFFF, which is invalid. Anything starting with FF is considered to be a ttdpatch base grf and so won't be loaded in OpenTTD. You can either decode it and change the GRFID yourself, or if you still have the .exe it was created from (with grdtogrf) you can recreate it and specify a GRFID there.

Okay, I changed the GRFID with a hex editor and it works great now.

On a completely unrelated note, RC5 segfaults whenever I try to load a game (even one which was saved in RC5 itself...)

Kirk! Get over here!

Okaay.... Should have been more specific. Go get your "Most useless bug report ever" award, and then come back. I'm stripping you of that award, and presenting it to Inverted instead.

One of the links in my sig says something about "basic intelligence". I recommend you read that section, inverted. Or, better yet, that whole document.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Meh, it doesn't really bother me, which is why I didn't bother making a new topic for it. I can just keep using rev 5929 :P Besides, there's not really much to be specific about for that kind of bug.

There's lots to be specific about - which platform you're using, whether savegames made in any previous version also segfault, whether it immediately segfaults or if it's after a certain amount of time, if it's reproducible (in which case, please provide a savegame) ...
