the 3 rail types

Post by m4rek »

would it be possible to have electric rails replace standard rails as 1st rail type, so that we could have both monorail* and maglev**?

*IRL, this is maglev as we know it
**IRL, this is maglev using superconductors (we cant quite get superconductors that work at room temperture so we dont quite have it in useful applications....yet)

What's the point?

If you do that, you might as well just turn electrified rails off so all trains run on normal track.

Bugger to MagLev and Monorail.

Normal and electric rail ftw.

that would be because i may need both the maglevs but i like electric rails.

so, could it be done? (lets not worry about the 'why' too much)

If somebody with the same mindset would code that, yes. It would be possible.

However, I agree with mister Worly over there.

I miss your point.

If you have monorail and maglev seperate, then Electric locomotives will run on railway track - regardless of electrified or not.

i want separate maglev and monorail, AND keep electric rail graphics...

Oh you want the catenary to show!

Well... I'm sure that can't be too hard to add as an option?

No, then trains would drive on top of the catenary. This would be Ok for third rail electriciation, but to have the catenary would need patch support.

It might be relatively straightforward to extend DaleStan's "show catenary on third track type" feature to the first track type as well, but applying that without also turning on elrails will be more than a little tricky, so don't hold your breath...
