The New RRT4

Post by Train-a-Mania »

Apparently, the creator of the original RRT has returned to make this game. More info can be found in the Important Links sticky.

The graphics look stunning, but I'm not sure about having steam engines without tenders. What do you think/hope?

If you mean 'Sid Meiers Railroads', then... meh. Steam without tenders? Sounds like a homage to the original Railroad Tycoon of sorts.

The graphics look unspectacular, to say the best. I don't think I will be in a rush to be buying this game like I was 'Locomotion'. Gameplay will have to be a big save for this game.

I don't really think it's going to be good. From the trailers, it seems its not even based in real life, but in someones attic.

I agree that it does appear to be more focused on toy trains rather than real trains. However, the gameplay in the first one was pretty good.

It looks too childlike for me to want it...
I assume this won't be RRT4, right?

Its like an "un-official sequel", like Locomotion was to TTD.

Yeah, it does sound like an un-official sequal.

I'll definately get this, as im a model railwayer, and the pictures & trailers give it a bit toyish look. But it should be fun, even though its historically inaccurate in part of the actual Railroads..

Because of the System Hornby uses, you can't anyway. :p

(The electricity is taken up through the engine part, and the motor in the tender)

One thing that is puzzling, however, is that in this shot, there is a tender.

Its probably a bit early to be basing an decision to buy the game based on pics that look like they've used the RRT3 engine for the base of the new game. The game is months away anyway, isn't it?

btw, the company which made RRT3 (PopTop), have been folded and the assets of the company merged into Sid Meiers' comapny, which is why he's now coming out with a sequel!

So, it is in effect RRT4.

I really enjoy RRT3, yes the way trains overtake isn't exactly realistic, but it, imo, makes for a more enjoyable gameplay. You don't need to fart around with signals or anything, just plonk the track down and off you go!

I'll keep an eye on RRT4 as I hope the mechanics of the game will be improved as Sid is working on this one and he's a genius!

Actually, if you look at the screenshots here ( http://www.1up.com/do/media?cId=3148826&mt=0 ), you'll see that a lot of them have tenders. It may also be because they weren't in the game for those particular engines at the time the screenshot was taken.

I also think that he (Sid) is trying to copy Chris Sawyer.

Sid Meier's: Railroads!
Chris Sawyer's: Locomotion

Anyone see a similarity?
