New town names

Post by BuzzBoke »

I'm from Spain, and saw in the last beta that exist a new option to create customiced town names, i'd like to make a list from my country city names, and I don't know how to do it, and if it's possible add this list to next patchs.

Sorry, but my english is very poor, and thanks a lot for this great work.

I'm pretty certain there are some Spanish town names in the Spanish GRF. Look at the Spanish Set's thread and see what you get.

You'll find it in graphics.

You'll also find the Spain set working website here:

http://www.as-st.com/ttd/renfetech/

There is no public site, because the set is still under construction. The town names ought to work, though.

I would also like to add names from my country(Iam from the Philippines by the way) Is there any tutorials for this. I also read in the manual that you could add new sounds using GRFs. Is it just sound effects for the graphics or entirely new musics? Thanks.

You can add new MP3 or MIDI music.

You can also add new sound effects for the graphics.

And you can code new lists of town names.

The last two, however, involve GRF encoding, which is quite complex. You'd want to start with a look at the Patch website Wiki, which is on ttdpatch.net.

Oh? So I'm not the only one who thinks Action F is insane?

That makes me feel better.

Yeah, but the difference is that code in general makes me look like a 4 year old sitting a GCSE Maths exam...

Action F? Wasn't that the song from Beverly Hills Cop?

Specifically, it's the action that controls new town names.

Does this option allow for random combinations or just radomly chooses from a list?

Either or both, depending on how you code the .grf.

Oooo goody! :D Finally I can do some decent town names for George's Mars setting without resorting to TTD Alter. Now if there was just some way to alter the industries to make the products and ingredients more in line with a space/ futureistc type economy.

Well surely you can change those... Pikka changed "Goods" to "Stuff" for me as a joke - it couldn't have taken him that long either.

Hmm... so you can change the industry text via grf's? If so I'll have to look up that as well.

Ok... been reading up on Action F and I'm confused as to how the overall layout of the .nfo file would be. Where would I define how I want TTDPatch to chose the names? I know I want just 2 part names and I've the actual text for the names, but how to put it all together is still confusing me. I'd appreciate some help so I have some idea of what to do.
